Just a question regarding the stock HD800S balanced cable that is included with the headphone.   Is the stock HD800S cable the same construction (internally) as the CH 800 S? If not, what's the internal construction/material used in the stock cable?     CH 800 S specs...   High-quality...

chop off the TRS plug and add on a 4-pin XLR plug by Neutrik. Cheaper. I posted a question regarding whether this was possible and the response was no. I'm not the DIY type and don't understand why this is not possible. I do want to try balanced mode but need to know if it's as simple as...

I posted a question regarding whether this was possible and the response was no. I'm not the DIY type and don't understand why this is not possible. I do want to try balanced mode but need to know if it's as simple as swapping it for 4-pin XLR... Has anyone done this?

    Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

Haven't heard the HD650...I do, however, have the Elear and BHA-1 and I really like the synergy. I have some classical (piano & violin) and the Elear does a fine job with these instruments.

This is true, however, I don't think the Elear (or most headphones) are designed to operate and function without flaw at those extreme levels...somethings got to give.

    Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

Ok...let's say these statements are all true.  Essentially, the Elear (IMO) is an awesome sounding headphone and is not defective. The distortion only arises when:  'playing bass heavy tracks at very, very high gain'   Who in the right mind listens at these extreme levels? It is common sense...

I have not experienced any driver issues at loud volumes with bass heavy tracks. Massive Attack "Angel" never sounded better!! Rock solid low end response with zero distortion.

    Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

Just picked up the Elear and here are my first impressions with direct comparisons between HD800 and Audeze LCD-3 using Bryston BHA-1 amp. Treble (instruments) are resolving and smooth with vocals somewhat softer sounding and less forward vs HD800 but on par with LCD-3. Mids/Upper mids seems...

    Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

The 4-pin XLR Q cable that I have was originally made for Audeze. I have an adaptor which is used with HD800 in balanced mode and want to try an adaptor using the same Q Cable to save some money. Q Cable has adaptors for the Elear and wanted to make sure this will be fine before purchasing.

Makes sense.... Another option I could do is to use an existing "balanced" 4 pin XLR cable and get an adaptor for the headphone end. Will this work?

Question about the Elear.... I want to try using an adaptor for balnaced 4 pin XLR connection. Is this recommended and safe to do? Will there be any sonic improvement?

Are you saying that since the stock Elear cable is unbalanced (TRS connector), swapping the TRS connector with a 4-pin XLR is not possible?
