The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)

I mainly use them for listening to music in my office, although my office is a noisy apartment building :dt880smile: so hopefully it won't be an issue. I think isolation is one of those values that even if not as sufficient as we would like at times, isn't a deal break since noise is usually...

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)

Thank you for the response. Liric definitely seemed to be the top of the list as far as comfort, it's probably the lightest of the bunch too. Based on your response I did some more thinking and removed the Audeze offerings from my consideration, I think they're too heavy. Thank you for the...

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)

Hi All, I'm looking for a recommendation on a set of closed back cans. Last time I was really "in" the space was 2016 and it seems like so much has changed it's hard to keep track. I had Sony MDR-Z7 back in the day, and liked them, so it seemed natural to look at the Z7M2 but it seems like...

[FiiO K9]FiiO Desktop DAC and Headphone Amplifier K9 Is Officially Released!

both interesting and helpful replies, thank you. So I guess the next progression of this question would be to ask if any of the inputs do analogue to digital or are they all purely analogue?

[FiiO K9]FiiO Desktop DAC and Headphone Amplifier K9 Is Officially Released!

Hi All, I'm considering a purchase of the K9 but trying to find some information. Since the K9 has a 4.4mm balanced input, could I use an XLR to 4.4mm convertor to allow the K9 to act as a ADC for a Shure sm7b microphone? IE, the input would show up in a DAW such as Reaper so I could make...

USB cables - Should I buy a better one or stick with the cheapo?

Both good posts. I was going to ask how packet loss would manifest itself in your listening experience but it looks like proton007 answered that.

Watches - another passion of ours, it seems...post your pics!

Hi Mike,   It's the BL5250-02L leather/titanium. It's a fine watch, but there are a few things that bother me. My main niggle about it is that the strap feels and looks so incredibly cheap for what you pay for this watch. Of course you can get a different one but after spending that...

Not sure what device i need

Supposedly PS4 is getting DLNA support 'soon', so when that happens you can just run ps3mediaserver on your desktop and stream to your PS4. Sorry that doesn't help you much at the moment though :/

USB cables - Should I buy a better one or stick with the cheapo?

USB is a digital format, there is no sense in spending extra money on cables. The data either reaches its destination or it doesn't.

Nexus 5 Sound Quality and 100$ earphones

The N5 should be more than capable of driving the first set of headphones quite well. I'm driving a set of EPH-100s with my SGS4 at the moment and it really sounds amazing.

Mac OS X Music Players - alternatives to iTunes

Hi Ned,     Have you looked at JRiver Media Center? I believe it supports most of your requirements. I know it can be really difficult to meet all of one's requirements with proprietary software but I think Media Center generally has enough features to keep everyone happy.

Need help on knife sharpening & water stones!

I use one of these too for my knives that have v-grind edges. I just finish them off with a strop after using the sharpmaker and they're sharp enough to pop hairs fairly easily.

Watches - another passion of ours, it seems...post your pics!

Rockin a Citizen Eco-Drive right now, I just got it and I'm not terribly impressed with it so far. I also have a Casio Pathfinder which I love, it's given me years of trouble free use. Never even have to set it thanks to its time sync with NIST.   Will post pics when I have the ability.

Not sure what device i need

Are you opposed to running cables? Is your bedroom close enough that you could make a USB run from your desktop to your DAC? I ran a 30' USB cable from my desktop to my DAC and then I control the media player on my desktop via my iPad.   If cables aren't an option, you could get some type of...

Recommendations for replacement of my Monster Turbine

From what I understand, the turbines have kind of a pronounced lower end with more laid back mids and highs. If you don't want to replace them with the same thing, I'd look at a set of b&w c5s, they have a similar sound signature.

Tablet to wirelessly control external hard drive?

You could just keep everything the way it is and use either jriver media center or foobar, and then control those applications via their tablet remotes. You can use jremote for jriver or monkeymote for foobar.

Mac users: What audio player do you guys use?

Another vote for JRiver Media Center. Much of my library is in FLAC and there just aren't a lot of other players for OSX that are any good that play FLAC.

    Ripping vinyl to lossless digital

AT produces a system that will connect via USB, so you can record directly to any program that supports ASIO or WASAPI.   http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/turntables/583f30b3a8662772/index.html   300 bucks.

    Best Importing Format for Itunes

I would import them in ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) if you're taking the time to rip them. That will give you a lossless source which you can transcode into lossy formats if you desire in the future. You should be able to upload and play ALAC directly from your iPod Classic.
