    Bass Rolloff With Cowon D2

What phones are you using? New headphones would be your easiest fix. With my (admittedly older) E4C's I set the mach3bass on the D2 at 10 and there is barely enough bass for me--and I'm not a bass-head. With the Sony PX-100s I like to set the bass to zero and the equalizer flat. I think those...

Portable amps without lineout = waste?

Yes, you can get great sound using the headphone-out jack through an amp. You should choose your player by the overall feature set. After you settle on a player-and-amp combination try it with various combinations on the volume knobs. I find I often like a mid-volume set on my player and then do...

    Cowon D2 vs Sony A818

Ditto. Expandibility was my key, along with the wide range of audio formats. I'm delighted with my D2 after nearly a year, and I've learned to like many of the other features. On the other hand, I'm delighted that there are so many other good choices out there.

    "Best" SDHC player.

I don't see the file numbers as a limitation on the D2. I rip some CDs as a single large file (concerts, concept albums, etc.) so I don't get that annoying gap in the music. You'll definitely hit the barrier if you like ripping tiny (highly compressed) files.

If not the Cowon D2, then what??

I don't have the experience with the other players, so I can only speak regarding the D2. I bought it for the audio quality, the SD card slot, and the fact that it is flash memory rather than a hard disk player. I was pleasantly surprised that the clarity and detail of the audio was as good...

    Looking at some new daps.

Cowon D2 handles most of the audio formats listed for the Onda. You'd have to convert the video before using it on the D2. On the other hand, I think you should spring for the Onda and then report back to us...<grin>

Best DAP to pair with Shure e4c or se530?

I have the red D2 and it sounds great through my E4Cs. With my other (over-the-ear) headphones I prefer an equilizer setting that's pretty flat. However, with the E4Cs I crank the Mach3bass way up, to between 5 and 10, and I add some bass on the equilizer bands.

    All D2 users

I have no idea how long it will go. Guess I'll have to set up a test. This week I flew to Denver, so I listened to about 7 hours of Ogg Vorbis Q8 from the card while I was on the flight and at the hotel. I listened to the FM radio for an hour. I recorded ambient sound at highest quality for...

    Cowon D2 / Ipod Video / Clix² + Headamp

I use the D2 with no amp, and with the headphone out jack connected to four different headphone amps: PA2v2, Total Bithead, Penguin Decaf (German CMOY), and Headroom Supreme. It sounds pretty good in all setups, so I switch them around just to get different flavors. My headphones don't require...

    Small, light, video/audio player?

I really like my Cowon D2. It fits your criteria. Yes, it does take a few clicks to get it going, but it's not a big deal. I have put a dozen videos on it--wasn't a problem--just drag into Jetaudio and drop and hit start. Some people have had trouble with playlists, but they work just fine...

    Cowon D2 without a Rival?

Yup. Those are the features that sold me. I also like the ogg support--I use ogg more than I use flac, and lately I've been playing a bunch of old holiday music mp3s--they all sound great on the D2. I have a line-in cable, but haven't tried it out yet. However, I've been pleased with the...

Advice for a newbie (MP3 player, headphones and amp)

First of all, rip high-quality files. It's free (takes time). If I had your budget, I'd skip the amp for now. I'd buy the player and put the rest of the money into headphones. The question is, do you want one set of very good headphones, or two decent (low-budget) sets? I like having both...

    Static with PA2v2?

I've owned three of the PA2v2s, and they all have given some static (sometimes) when you turn the volume knob. However, if you're not touching the volume, it should be rock-solid. It will provide static when the batteries are getting low. I had a lot more trouble with one unit than the other...

    Cowon D2 vs iPod Touch

I've used a friend's Touch, and own a D2, so it's pretty obvious which way I voted. The biggest question is whether you are a fan of iTunes or not. I like owning the CDs for all my music. I decided I was happier using the many options available to rip FLAC files from my CDs, and I've been...

Why there is nobody talking about CD players and MD's?

I had a Sony CD player that was the best. Traded it in for a Philips PCDP that could read a disc burned with about 10 hours worth of mp3 files on it. Didn't sound so good, especially with low-bitrate mp3 files. But, uhm, now I carry most of my collection on my Cowon, using high-quality Ogg...

Advice on buying an mp3 player/recorder

Optical in/out pretty much dooms your search. How much space do you need? You can open up your search to flash-based players if you get one that accepts SD cards, or if you don't need to carry around all your stuff all the time. I like my Cowon D2 for music and video. It works OK for...

Best sounding flash player with MSC support?

I use my Cowon/Iaudio D2 in MSC mode for loading files and in MTP mode for playing with the playlists. I was not familiar with MTP/MSC prior to getting the player, and was pleased to find out that loading files was so easy. IMHO the Cowon D2 sounds fantastic, but then my goal is to get very...

so is the cowon d2 good or bad?

About the screen--I've used Palm products heavily for 10 years now, and the touchscreens usually last much longer than I want to use the unit. Just don't crack/break it! I found that I have to set my D2 up to play before I drive, and not touch it during my commute, or else I risk wrecking the...
