    Good Laptop speakers for 100$

In general speakers of this size need a sub to sound reasonable IMO. I would personally look for a deal on some Acoustic Energy Aego M's.... Mine are still going strong and I have still never heard anything to beat them taking size/price into consideration. Their build quality is also on a...

    Calling All "Vintage" Speaker Owners

When you say that you "Just brought home a new baby boy." Did you pop out for some vintage speakers and come back with a baby instead? Lol

Will using a 1/4 jack to 3.5mm effect SQ?

Are you using an old version of windows e.g XP? Since Vista and 7 (i don't use 8) I have found the Microsoft Audio architecture to be fine.... especially with WASAPI. Also I always thought that ASIO was only beneficial for recording latency issues?

Will using a 1/4 jack to 3.5mm effect SQ?

If your worried, I can sell you some lovely snake oil to lubricate the connection which will result in clearer highs and more agile bass. :P I think you'll be good.

Need suggestions for a stereo system (two speakers w/ sub and a receiver meant for music) something like the Sony Muteki?

When you say beastly are you referring to the looks, as in ghastly? If you want an all in one with crazy looks and peculiar bass holes that don't actually do anything (mostly pieces of plastic that are glued onto the outside of cheap speakers.) Then I'm sure the fence down your local boozer...

The inside of a $450 speaker cable box.

Taken from the above link "P.E. insulation— Reduces non-linear dielectric-based distortions for excellent low level detail & superior sound.".......... Yeah...... OK Garbage!

    Wireless Streaming Setup - Adequate?

My E10 works, with a powered USB hub. Which admittedly isn't ideal. The Hifimediy Sabre USB DAC and Muse Mini USB DAC are other cheaper options that are still capable of reasonable sound. Some people have reported clicks and pops from Raspberry Pi's into USB devices.... I haven't experienced...

    Wireless Streaming Setup - Adequate?

I think the speakers and sound card are the weak link (although you will get sound on par if not better than most iPod docks.) Personally I would pay more for something like a Fiio E10 and less on getting an old Rotel/NAD/Cambridge Amp for about 20-30 and some Older proper speakers like Mordaunt...

Help: Turntable with powered speakers problem. Gear = great. Sound = terrible

How stable is your TT? Can you put it on a very heavy isolation platform. How are the speakers from other sources, like cd or other digital audio. You need to isolate either the TT, Cable or Speakers. Swap and change if possible until you find the culprit and then is a matter of finding why it's...

The inside of a $450 speaker cable box.

That junk is just plain offensive, unfortunately there seems to be too much room in the industry for crud like this! Also unfortunately I'm not surprised one bit that there have probably been scores of people singing the praises of this utter mess..... Wow just wow, $450? They are literally...

    do you know this speakers?

I take it that your speakers have the metal bridge connecting the high and low terminals? If not then use a couple inches of speaker wire between the corresponding terminals on each speaker e.g high + (red) to low + (red) on the same speaker and then the same for - (black). You would then...

    Classic Silver Disc Spinners

I alway quite fancied the Philips CD104 but the Philips CD100 is perhaps the most beautiful CD player ever, and the Philips CD-303 was a very cool idea. Sony CDP-302 was another I always fancied an the Pioneer PD-1 is perhaps the coolest looking CD player of all time. Saying all that though I...

The Kef Coda 9's on the site you linked to could be worth a try, I would haggle the price down though. Also the Pioneer CS-7070's could be worth a look but again that price is high, on second thoughts can't you buy from the well known auction sites .de version?

    Calling All "Vintage" Speaker Owners

That CT-F1000 reminds me quite a bit of the Phase Linear 7000 from Risky Business. I love the open mech, it has massive cool factor to me. I love the fact that you have equipment there just for the visual factor! Lol To my shame I have never heard Reel to Reel but I have been told by a few...

God I love silver fascias in wooden boxes! It just oozes class.... I'm truly jealous... It's all in such good/clean condition too, this also reminds me that I have been meaning to get a reel to reel for years. I'm just going to have to take the plunge I reckon. Any chance you could give a...

    Better cables = better sound?

I think this is the most sensible of all the replies in this thread. IMO, the first link is unbalanced from the first sentence "Every audiophile who has experimented with better power cables has heard the performance advantage they offer." Well I haven't, but I suppose in some circles I would...

    Better cables = better sound?

Did you read his post? When you say "the great improvement in sound quality"... blackmarket specifically said "I wasn't even sure if there was a difference at all." I am also intreagued to know how cables affect soundstage?... I can almost buy into the possibility that they affect overall sound...

Netflix: some Dolby titles don't support Dolby via optical cable

Technically, Dolby 5.1 is available... So long as you use the hardware that they support. The point is moot however as I would immagine that it's in Netflix' interest to get AC3 on all their titles where it's available due to the fact that Optical and Coaxial digital audio feeds are still...

Receiver reccomendations for Monitor Audio Bronze BX2

No, because the beauty of forums is that often other people than the OP have the same or a similar question and may find the opinions a help for years and years to come if they get linked to the thread by a search engine.

    Better cables = better sound?

I can't disagree with anything you have said. Firstly I can't comment on 10k items of audio kit... That's about what my car is worth, although I did drop over £4k on a TV. Other than that one of my 5.1 speaker package's cost around £1.5k and it's down hill from there. But I would imagine the...
