Now thinking of getting the higher end SR1 or RS2 to replace my bookshelf speakers, B&W 601s. Should be an interesting search

    Which Grados should I get

Haven't been on here for a few years, so pardon the absence. I have the urge to get a decent set of Grados; did some looking thourgh the "search" feature but found nothing up to date. Listen to classical, symphonies, jazz and female jazz vocals through an analog system--no headphone amp...

suggestions for amp for iPod Nano??

Thought I'd see what recommendations I could get for an amp for my Nanos.  Had the iBasso T1 which fit the Nano perfectly, but wondering if there was anything newer that would be a good fit.   Ideas???

    Which Ray Samuels amp?

For the LOD I'd look at something from ALO. Again,no need to spend $200 for the cable (although admittedly I did several times) but his cable for around $100 is also very nice. Up to you but if you're dropping 300-400for the amp it's nice to have high quality cabling to go along with it

    Which Ray Samuels amp?

I've owned Tomahawk, Predator, Hornet Sr-71 (original) and Mustang  over the past eight or so years and I can tell you ray is a fantastic person to deal with.  Answers his own phone, even and always ready to help.  and has been said here, any of his amps are killer.  If you go with the Tomahawk...

Whiplash - have they gone missing?

those of you who have been on here for about six-seven years--does the name Xin Feng ring bells???  He who was a genius building Supermacro and Reference amps but would never respond to emails, then suddenly one bright day your orde would show up.  Then one day he vanishes into thin air??  Good...

    Portaphile Thread

Quote: Six or so years ago when Cesar first introduced the Portaphile, then the Portaphile Maxxed ( which I still own and dearly love) there were huge discussions on batteries and battery life.  One member (Romanee) posted the benefits of LiPo batteries from Thomas Distributing as being...

Reply to review by 'tnmike1' on item 'ALO audio 22awg OCC Cryo Dock'

I've owned many of ALO's cables. And yes, Takato14, $110 to me is little money when you have 400-500 invested in a good portable amp. I've spent about $195 for ALO's higher end cables and they truly make a huge difference in performance. This one for $110 is a steal

Etymotic Er-4 Custom Tips: Which ones?

This may be a little known secret but I called Westone to have custom tips made for my UM3X and asked if those tips woud fit my Etys.  They responded telling me that while the tips would not fit the Etys they could make customs specifically for the Ety as well.  The lady said it was not...

Classical Music Lovers: What is your favorite dynamic for strings, whether solos or quartets?

have the ety4p with a 'p to s" adapter, the UM3X and pair of just-returned Westone 4.  Listen to classical, big symphonics, opera and string quartets  Also jazz and jazz vocals.  OK, all that said, I too am an ety devotee and found the W4 so close in sound to the UM3X, I returned them.  UM3X is...

Which iBasso amp for Westone 4 and iPod Classic?

taking some suggestions from here, tried the W4 directly out of iPod Classic and, yeah, couldn't tell that much difference amped vs unamped.  So maybe hold off on the whole amp thing.  Dunno

    Westone 4R: Westone 4 + Removable cable

Quote: agree with you.  In fact, just posted to Earphone Solutions for the return authorization for my W4--I could tell a LITTLE better sound from these than my UM3X but in all honesty couldn't see spending $350+ for that subtle difference.  Now getting the UM56 custom molds for the...

    Westone 4R: Westone 4 + Removable cable

Quote: only problem will be I bought the W4 from Earphone Solutions on a 20% discount; doubt the new W4R will be that inexpensive or that I'd hear that much difference anyway to warrant the price difference.   Looking forward to a review of the new ones, though

    Westone 4R: Westone 4 + Removable cable

Quote: I'm in the same boat.  Just got my W4 three days ago.  You realize, though, they are returnable within 30 days of purchase with no restocking fee if you buy something else.  Which is what I may do.  Love them right now, and may even love the new "4" even more.  Who knows???

    Do 'High-End' Audio cables matter?

Only cabling I'm using is a $65 Whiplash and a $195 ALO cable as the interconnect with iPod and amp.  I "think" I can hear a sligiht difference between them--a little more detail, more openness, etc--but doubt highly if it's worth the additional $130 or so between the two.  Actually I'm quite...

V-MODA CROSSFADE M-80 AUDIO VOYAGE – Reviewers wanted!

Which iBasso amp for Westone 4 and iPod Classic?

Having read several of the threads on the many available iBasso amps I'm more confused than ever.  Just got Westone 4 IEMs to use with my iPod Classic and looking for an iBasso amp.  Don't use the DAC feature, so it would be one of the amp only models.   So what do y'all think would be the...

Will Westone 4 fit my needs?

Quote: the most comfortable ones I've found are the Shure "mushrooms", large size, but even them I have to push into my ears for a decent fit.  Still, these are the best for me, but still hear a "mushy" bass.  I've ordered the "4"s, so we'll see how they work.
