No, bass should above standard, certainly well above reference level right out of the gate. Make certain your tips are well sealed in your ear canals.

@ 75 ohm, the 280's are going to need a powerful amp to drive them to anywhere near their potential. Especially AKG. Even a portable amp (ex. E17) isn't really enough. Plug those babies into something with real juice and you will see why.

I'd be cautious. Pm me a pic if you can, I have had good luck identifying fakes so far. If you have the right size tips in, bass should not be lacking

Aluminum gimbals. Definitely. ....In for a penny in for a pound.... Although they have no effect on sound quality whatsoever, they are the one thing that just feels right. They give you the durability, but more importantly it is a satisfaction that you finally have rid yourself of that itch...
