Hmmm. I always knew that the burn-in concept was dubious at best - generally nothing more than one's ears and brain getting accustomed to the sound. But apparently, with A&K, burn-in is literal, i.e. burning into one's skin! I guess after 1-2 weeks one becomes numb to the pain.
