Q701s have a little bit harsh highs.

Ultrasone Pro 900 should do the trick.

Search around, there are threads on them, they get a mixed review, some people love them, some dont like them.  I owned them 2 times and decided i dont like them, here is some reviews.   http://www.head-fi.org/t/610298/akg-k550-review

The earcups are to soft, and the clamping pressure is not enough, that equals bad seal.  There are much better HP for $300, i gave these every chance.

I own the X-FI Titanium HD, its a pretty darn good sounding soundcard, you can pick one up on ebay for $85 like i did.  I had the Q701s and there power hungry, infact the X-FI barely drove them, i was looking for a amp on top of my Xfi.

I had the AKG Q701 and i thought they were good on music and movies, didnt try gaming, but you need a soundcard upgrade for sure.

You can probally get $175 for them, i imagine the green being the hardest to sell.

I found the K550s very comfy, and could wear them for a whole movie easy, they just dont sound well with movies at all i thought.

I have had both the Q701 and the K550, after exstensive listening, i find the Q701 a much more refined and better overall headphone.

The denons seem like a better fit, alot of your kind of music is more on the bass heavy side.  The Q701s have a very clean detailed sound, but there not bass heavy, but there not bass light, the bass is there, just not head pounding or thumping.   I think you could go either way, but i would...

They suck bad on movies that much i can tell you for sure, not a movie friendly HP.

I think some people are more sensitive to comfort than others, but your right the headband looks great, but its a very bad design for comfort.  The ear pads are very stiff, i found them to hurt my ears the first week a little, but then i guess they broke in and there felt great.  They definitly...

I will say that the earpads did hurt me to at first, there very firm, the headband hurt on longs sessions, after about a week i couldnt even tell i was wearing them, you experience may vary, but give them some time.

Ok i gave up to early i guess, i was told by a memer here that i dont need to amp them, im can see that i do need a amp regardless of what i get.  I may end up wiith them again with a amp, who knows.   I have the K550s right now and am playing with them, i can see i need a amp no matter what...

I drove both pairs from my X-FI Titanium HD soundcard on my computer.

I guess it came down to they were just to bright for my taste, the highs were just to high i guess,  the bass was very nice i will say, i guess i need a slightly warmer overall sound.

Sold my Q701s today , going to go back and try the K550s again or the HD 650s, i hope i dont regret this, thanks for everybodys help.

I own the Q701s, i did own the K550s, the soundstage on the Q701 is better.  I have listened to both sets for several days, and in my opinion and what my ears hear and my taste, i think the K550s sound better.  Its amazing how they sound for a closed back set, i think the Q701s have a tiny bit...

Try the AKG Q701s, maybe just what your looking for, good bass, not overdone, good clear clean mids, pretty good highs, some say a tad bright, but a very good set of cans, and below your price range.

Completely forget C of your critera, if you like them who cares what anybody else thinks.

The K550 treble seems fine to me, to each his own.
