Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro X Anniversary model

Interesting thing with DT 990 at least the 250 Ohm version is, sound signature changes a lot with the output impedance of head amplifiers. Traditionally great amps with near zero impedance sounds the most piercing. When I use my pair on a cheap Steinberg UR22C audio interface with a not so good...

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

LoL so hard to pick a "shipwrecked island" can, I would probably go for my original marbled HD600 as they are ... smooth ... and comfortable :)

Unless the headband snaps, the 840 really are a defective construction, but yeah they sounds great while they last ...

I have enjoyed, and hated some of these. Now what?

Closed cans you say? If not wanting to break the bank I would recommend both Shure SRH840a and even the old workhorse Audio-Technica ATH-M50x as clean but powerful sounding and also sturdy, both under 200$. The SRH840a is more "HiFi" imo and the treble is less pronounced. Beyerdynamic DT700...

Sennheiser HD 300 Pro Review and Impressions Thread (HD 250 Linear Revival )

Your interface has two benefits vs normal computer audio: 1. It has ASIO drivers which means you can record and playback/monitor at the same time with low latency, this usually works much worse with built in PC audio. 2. It has a high quality microphone preamp which is a benefit when recording...

Sennheiser HD 300 Pro Review and Impressions Thread (HD 250 Linear Revival )

The Steinberg UR12 is quite OK as an audio interface but the headphone out is very weak and is best used with easy to drive headphones, in which case it may sound good enough for most people. I haven't heard the HD300 Pro, just saying your headphone out is a potential bottleneck.

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

It's about how I hear the difference too, I greatly prefer the HD600 over HD650. The HD660S2 is nice, sounds powerful and "HiFi" but HD600 still sounds more natural though it breaks up earlier when playing loud. I once did comparison between HD600 and HD650 in a musical instruments shop. I...

Best headphone amp you have ever heard, and why.

I have not seen that story, do link if you find it. Anyway, all those chinese brands from Shenzhen generally seems to perform rather good, not only on audiosciencereview but most other sites as well. In particular featuring very high power output/$. However, even if I own one of the suspects...

Best headphone amp you have ever heard, and why.

I haven't heard many dedicated headphone amps, but an infinite amount of integrated hp-outs, those do differ. A lot. Anyway, my current "best" results is with my cheap chinese SMSL SH-6. It has a lot more power than any integrated solution and it sounds enjoyable enough with all my headphones...

Best headphone for bad crappy recording quality songs from the 80's

I would say that headphones that are generally "better" or more resolving etc are better even for "crappy" recordings but you may have to consider tweaking the frequency curve if it's way off for your taste

    Neumann NDH 30

SIlver is fine, in particular since most cans already are black so enough black as is :)

    Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone

Except the lowest bass the 1990 Pro has very low distortion, almost on par with a planar, which contributes to making the treble peaks not particularly painful. Biggest treat imo is the dynamics, like most Beyers they sound just powerful and lively and amongst the Beyers these are possibly the...

Nice to see another Tascam Model 12 user, it's a really nice piece of gear that does exactly what it says and for not a lot of money :)

Certainly, I can't exactly remember when I quit CRT but it must have been around 2000-2005, about 20 years ago. Impressive to still be in the game. This model was my last CRT-monitor(image borrowed from Reddit...

    Neumann NDH 30

Depends what you mean by "relaxed", for myself "relaxed" is not loss of details, muffled, veiled or compressed dynamics but it is lack of harsh edges and grainyness and a certain fluidity in the presentation hence the term "relaxed" contrary to "strained" which would be for a can that struggles...

    Neumann NDH 30

After having had the NDH-30 basically since they where introduced, at the beginning of this thread, for me too I love the relaxed nature of the NDH-30 the most. It has become my mostly used late night can. Last night I listened to a classical live concert on FM-radio(I have a Sony ES-tuner)...

For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

Listening on one of my DAW:s, QOBUS WASAPI -> Tascam 2X2HR -> Yamaha RX-A2050 (pure direct) -> SONY MDR-Z7M2, sounds really fun

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

It sounds like you have your wiring out of phase in balanced mode, the effect is exactly as you describe very wide sound and cancelled bass. If I where you I would check your wiring, just running balanced shouldn't affect neither width of sound nor bass levels.

For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

Back to Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro after having rotated Neumann NDH-30/Sennheiser HD660S2 for a couple of months, DT1990 Pro do sound more "impressive" than both sound is not as wide as from a planar but boy is it punchy. The Beyers are the lively ones ... Running on SMSL SH-6 which does the job...

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

Still like mine, it's in rotation, currently trying Qobuz with them as I got a free month. I've been doing fine with Youtube Music for over a year, frankly most things sounds quite good with 256kB AAC, but well now trying Qobuz Studio with up to 24/192kHz FLAC. I have used Tidal, Apple and...

    Hifiman HE400se

Have to come back and hype these once again, they are super fun sounding imo, wide open soundstage almost no compression and punchy bass. What's not to like? Yeah, maybe the comfort but I find it somewhat ok I can use them for quite lenghty sessions. Sounds mint with progressive metal. I'm...

    Hifiman HE400se

Earlier in the thread it's mentioned how people 3D-print more open grills and are happy about the improvement in SQ, it's logical as the biggest difference of these vs dynamic cans is the openness of sound so why not make it even more open?

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

Most mixes are panned one way or the other because it sounds better that way, easy as that, stereo is not mono. There can be variance between different cans of course but don't expect things to sound dead center if it's not in the recording.
