Philips X2
Just wondering, what's with the super polarized views on this headphone. Some say it's super overpriced at 200$ others say it it's on par or better than the HD600. Is this one of those things where some audiophiles find any elevated bass 'distracting' or 'overwhelming' and find a headphone...- LaPierre

Please guys help me, i need advice for buying new on ear headphone under $70
I don't know many on-ear models, but a personal favorite of mine is the M-Audio Q40 which is 80$ on Amazon right now.- LaPierre

I've heard the Gemini's, they're not as good as the HAS500.- LaPierre

I've had the HAS500, they're quite good. Can't imagine it gets much better under 100$- LaPierre

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!
I haven't heard the CAL, honestly. The S680 sucks at subbass, but open-air it's got amazing clarity and I bet it'd probably surpass the CAL with a better baffle design (at the cost of bass quantity) I'm guessing. Guessing frequency graphs is difficult, it's probably all over the place likes most...- LaPierre

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!
I decided to use my HAS-680 for its drivers. I'm gonna put them in a 3D printed earcup once I finish designing it. The drivers have lots of ability, it's just the earcups + baffle they're in limit them a lot.- LaPierre

Filter Help w/ Speakers
The 'amps' I'm using are two receivers with tone control, I haven't been able to test much since I'm not done building my speakers, but a lot of hassle could probably be saved if either one of those receivers rolls off the bass enough for the fullrange driver.- LaPierre

Filter Help w/ Speakers
That's awful, when you spend that much on drivers and the techs screw it up for you.. I didn't have much money for my build, so I spent 40$ on a pair of Tang Band fullrange drivers and re-used a bad sounding pair of JVC 12" drivers from one of their vintage speakers I had lying around. The bass...- LaPierre

Filter Help w/ Speakers
I'm using 3/4" birch ply, rather than cabinets I'm going boxless (open baffle). I'm gonna add a bit of bracing to the back of the panels and don't intend for the bass drivers to go very low so resonance shouldn't be problematic. I'm using a fullrange driver specifically so I can cross lower...- LaPierre

Filter Help w/ Speakers
I'm using a 12" subwoofer and a 3" fullrange driver, so unless I do something exceptionally stupid I probably won't blow the 3" drivers.- LaPierre

Filter Help w/ Speakers
I'd have to look at it, but it doesn't seem like what I'm looking for. I found this http://www.t-linespeakers.org/tech/filters/passiveHLxo.html which seems pretty close to what I want, I'd have to figure out how to figure out what caps and resistors I need but I think I can discern this from...- LaPierre

Filter Help w/ Speakers
The Mini DSP is quite nice looking but I'm trying not to spend money. I'm trying to find information on in-line filters that I could put between RCA connections with a little luck, not a ton of info though. Those links look they'll come in handy when I'm building a bigger build and have more...- LaPierre

Filter Help w/ Speakers
I'm using 2 drivers per side, the low frequency drivers share an amp and the high frequency drivers share an amp so crossovers don't quite work. EQ isn't useable because I'm using a single source going to both amps. I want to use a filter in line so as to not waste amp power, it's a bit...- LaPierre

Filter Help w/ Speakers
Is there anyone on here who could help me figure out high-pass and low-pass filters? I was considering asking the Cables, Power, Tweaks, Speakers, Accessories (DBT-Free Forum) but I figured this was the proper place to ask, or rather the better place to ask. To simplify things, I'm building...- LaPierre

Going bass deaf, perhaps? It's probably the E10k if both seem less bassy, only way to confirm is using another amp though.- LaPierre

HIFIMAN Flagship Headphone HE1000 Beta Testing Opportunity Complete - Feel free to still comment
I'm interested. I have no experience with high-end gear, but I'd be able to compare with mid-fi gear and tell people how it runs on a modest Magni 2 Uber + Modi and a Fiio X3. Every perspective matters ;)- LaPierre

JVC HA-SZ2000/1000 Impressions Thread
I've been reading this thread and the best bass headphones thread and I'm not sure about the SZ1000/2000. People say they've got less clarity than the M50 (which suck) but I've also seen someone say they're far better than the M-Audio Q40 in every aspect which contradicts the M50 statement...- LaPierre

JVC HA-SZ2000/1000 Impressions Thread
What a coincidence, I usually think of games/movies (with headphones) in terms of either being bassy or having a soundstage, both kinds of headphones do games/movies fairly well. The SZ1000/2000 seem to be the kind of headphone for that, but can anyone comment on their long-term wearing comfort...- LaPierre

JVC HA-SZ2000/1000 Impressions Thread
Needed a magnifying glass to read that lol. The ability to reproduce those extremes is a really under appreciated attribute in the headphone/speaker world. It takes a well engineered headphone to handle both low and high amplitudes well, especially at the extremes. The SZ2000 sounds like the...- LaPierre

JVC HA-SZ2000/1000 Impressions Thread
Lol, this would be a topic we don't exactly want to derail the thread with. But if my understanding is correct the entirety of the big bang occurred in an insanely small fraction of a second and also, sound can be in space if there's a medium for pressure waves to travel through (considering the...- LaPierre

JVC HA-SZ2000/1000 Impressions Thread
The maximum possible sound with air as a medium is 194-ish decibels, anything past that doesn't behave like sound anymore, just intense explosions/shock-waves. 194 is the limit for air pressure, different mediums have different limits but that is kind of irrelevant to human hearing. I remember...- LaPierre
