Not sure how to answer this... I don't like the Qualias much. I usually don't get the seal right unless I press the cups against my head so the sound is a bit thin and hollow, even in his own awesomeness (detail, imaging, soundstaging, PRaT...)   Still, I had to answer the original question...

Yeah, KGSS and 717 are fine (don't own a 727). I have issues with some tube amps and/or volume knobs. In those occasions the trick is very useful. I must warn that at night sometimes listen at ridiculously low levels. YMMV.

HE60 works best with tubes. If you want SS, the 717 has better synergy than the KGSS (good for O2, not so much for HE60 or SR-Omega). Still, I like the HE60 better with the T1 most of the time, although for fast electronica I usually go for the 717.

If this amp is able to get the digital signal out of the Ipod like the iWadia then it would be pretty great. Could somebody please confirm/deny it? Come to think about it, it might be too good to be true, according to the price.
