    Just bought Shure e3c's

    Sik din mod

Maybe a dab of some sort of rubber sealant? If you did it carefully you could even mask the fact that you performed a DIY job.

    need an inexpensive RCA interconnect

I need something to connect a CIAudio DAC to a head amp...maybe just a foot if it's flexible enough. While it needs to be cheap it should also be worthy of a new $1000 setup, though I could upgrade it later.

Looking for a good inexpensive optical cable...

...and adapter, if needed, to connect an M-Audio Transit to a CIAudio DAC (1/8" optical to regular optical). Doesn't have to be very long...in fact a foot would probably do it. A cheap 15-20 footer would be great, but I'm guessing a decent one would cost much more than I'm willing to spend, and...

    Headphones for a College Student

get the most convenient phones of the better ones mentioned here I don't think anything in this price range is really going to blow your socks off, so there's no reason to make huge sacrifices like portability or comfort for small sound improvements...I'd stick with the PXs if I were you...

need to decide: ATH A500 vs. A700

you don't want to spend too much? A900 then even if you love the A5/700 that'll leave you wondering what the next level sounds like...you're already doing it and you don't even have them in hand...honestly I think it'd turn out to be the cheapest option since they'll keep you pleased longer...

Found a cure for my upgrade-itus

how long does that last? i find many songs sound just incredible the first few times you hear 'em but aweful later... ...but most importantly I also found the opposite. if you listen to certain songs that you'd usually just dismiss and skip over at least a few times, some really grow on...

    SR225 vs. HD600

Does anybody know Alessandro's return policy? I was thinking about just springing for the MS-2, which sounds promising. I doubt I'll make any more progress without trying something and I'm obviously bothering the he** out of some of the members of this forum. If that's settled, a few last...

    SR225 vs. HD600

Thanks. That's helpful. As for bumping the thread being bad taste, you're right and I won't do it again. Worked, though.

    SR225 vs. HD600

I was somewhat under the impression that 225s perform great unamped and with cheaper sources but improve less with better amps/sources, while the HDs underperform with cheap amps/sources but shine with better quality stuff. Is it wrong to make the assumption that the 225s aren't worthy of this...

    SR225 vs. HD600

I'm considering better hardware than before...CI DAC and amp...which of these headphones is my best bet? I want something good for commercial pop/rock/electronica and DVDs. I know the Grados are supposed to have really deep bass and strong highs...sounds like my kinda thing, but I'm wondering if...

    E5c's - Detailed Initial Impressions...

If they had sounded at all decent TO ME (no flaming please), I would have kept 'em. The design is neat...and fit was good with all but the triflanges. Takes some getting used to, but the concept is great...which was why I was drawn to them in the first place....

    E5c's - Detailed Initial Impressions...

Just to keep this grounded...I disliked these phones...so make sure you have the option to return them if you're considering getting a pair because their sound sig isn't liked by all. Build-wise, you might suspect they're made from cheap plastic and the cord and lil' pod would be easy to...

Anywhere to listen to high quailty phones near DC?

those GCs carry mid-range/low-end stuff...no Grados, HD580+, canalphones (even cheap ones)...frustrating since they told me they had this type of stuff on the phone..think the phrase was "everything in production"

soundcard - dac - amp - headphones: is this a worthwhile setup?

Which are better suited to this higher-end setup...SR225s or HD600s...I can get them for practically the same price. Or are MS-2s and 650s clearly better in this case?

soundcard - dac - amp - headphones: is this a worthwhile setup?

Also (assuming I take the plunge), is there anything here you'd swap or any phones you'd favor with this type of setup? Also, what interconnects should I get (not looking for anything fancy if I can avoid it)? It helps if it's carried at best buy...won't eat into my budget since I have $100 in...

soundcard - dac - amp - headphones: is this a worthwhile setup?

The only fear I have is that I'll order all this stuff just to find that the sound is good but not overwhelmingly awesome, in which case I'll decide to return everything and feel like a total idiot. To a non-audiophile who recognizes the difference between bose speakers and NHT, for example...

soundcard - dac - amp - headphones: is this a worthwhile setup?

Since I'm going to be replacing my desktop with a powerbook next year, I've decided not to base my setup around a PCI card. With this, for example, I can just swap the chaintech with a cheap usb/firewire device. Anyway, is this a good setup? It's slightly expensive for me...means no iPod for a...

    Yet Another Setup Possibility :)

BTW, I can't put money in the PCI card since I'm getting a notebook next year. The idea w/ this is that I can swap the PCI card w/ a cheap usb/firewire digital out, if powerbooks don't have this by then.
