Still on the hunt for a SS headphone amp. Considering a classic amp that I used to read about often.. audio gd master 9 with HE6 upgrade. What are the thoughts on this pairing (last time I did research was 2015 lol)

Been a while.. still very happy with my HE6 but curious what everyone's thoughts were regarding some of the newer Hifiman headphones. Any of them similar or even an upgrade considering the strengths of the HE6?

Thanks everyone. The HD 800s are so highly regarded that I figured it would be great to add to my collection. However, I've only demoed them a few times and they didn't wow me like the HE6s did (metal genres only). And I'm not sure how much realistic play time they would get atm. Nevertheless...

Definitely planning to comb through the thread, but any initial/quick thoughts on the HD 800 for metal? I have the he 6 and love them but with the HD 800 being priced at $999,im kind of tempted to get them. At least I know they would be great for soundtrack, classical, etc.

Enjoyed the ChordTT for a few hours at the recent Socal canjam. Definitely itching to make the purchase now. Sound just felt more impactful to me.

Loving the HE6s so far. Don't have another amp to compare to but loving the results I'm getting from the WA5 (k1k output). Sounds has an overwhelming richness (in a positive way) which makes the music incredibly addictive to listen to. Every metal genre I've tried has been amazing. With that...

Loving the HE6s so far with metal. The first thing I noticed over the HE500s was the overall improvement in richness of sound. Its not necessarily warm or lush but very extremely full sounding.

  Yeah, I've read the laid back comment too many times in various threads (for various genres too). Definitely wont be going in that direction. The good news is I'll save a good chunk by going with the HE6s as well.

  I've been gearing up for the HE6 purchase. Decided on those because I've read enough to know that HE1000s would be more of a luxury purchase, rather than a practical one.

  Was wondering which headphone (or any other HE1000/HE500 owner) you would describe as more engaging/forward. The HE500 or HE 1000

  Don't have a speaker amp but HE6 and WA5 pairing appears to have a positive impression. HE1000s would definitely be easier to drive but I'm concerned that the pairing would have an even more laid back sound signature.

  I see. Currently leaning towards the HE6s. Much cheaper and more suitable for metal. Hopefully I'll get a chance to at least demo the he1000s soon.
