How many games have their own virtual surround sound?

So it's 2017, a year after this post was made, and I still don't feel like I have any better of an understanding. Games don't seem to advertise whether or not they have built-in HRTF. The only one I know of that does, without question, is Counter Strike: Global Offensive. The only reason I know...

Feeling completely lost in trying to determine best way to set up computer audio for gaming

Hello head-fi - I have a fairly nice computer and a decent set of headphones (DT-990 pro). Previously, I was using a Sound Blaster Z and the included SBX Pro Studio virtual surround sound software for use in games. However, for some unknown reason, my Sound Blaster Z stopped working yesterday...

PCI Vs USB sound card for virtual surround sound

@obobskivich   Wow, thanks for the informative reply. Yeah, I meant PCIe. Also, I had no idea that the sound card essentially acts as a hardware interface these days (if I'm understanding you correctly).   So I could just buy X-Fi MB3 and essentially have the exact same experience as I do...

PCI Vs USB sound card for virtual surround sound

Is there a USB sound card that offers Creative's version of virtual surround sound (SBX?) and if so, how does it compare to a PCI sound card such as the Sound Blaster Z? Also. How are USB sound cards inferior to PCI sound cards in general?

Titanium X-Fi hissing and popping in Win 10

It's the SB0880 model. I just did a fresh Win 10 install and fully updated it (so I guess I've got the anniversary update), and I get constant hissing/static/popping and other various noises at all times on the Windows desktop. What drivers should I be using? Does this card just not work on Win...

Completely new to all things headphones - which AMP should I get for my DT990 Pro 250 ohm?

Just got the DT990 Pro 250 ohm and wondering if I need to buy an amp or not? And if so, what would be a good choice?   I listen to music on iTunes and also do a lot of gaming, if that helps. I've found that while I can completely max out my volume while listening to music, it's not exactly...

How many games have their own virtual surround sound?

I am thoroughly confused. I always thought that I needed a sound card with virtual surround sound technology (like CMSS-3D headphone or Dolby Headphone) in order to get virtual surround sound in my games.   However, recently on reddit some guy tried telling me that "all games have virtual...

Can't get subwoofer to work with DTS Connect and Creative X-Fi Titanium

Tried this, no joy.   It's really weird. When I'm in a specific menu in the creative control panel and I test the subwoofer, it's extremely loud. It sounds normal. But when I exit this menu, it's soft again.

Can't get subwoofer to work with DTS Connect and Creative X-Fi Titanium

Yes, I'm using a digital optical cable from the sound card to my Sony receiver. Everything seems to work great except for the subwoofer, and I know the sub works in and of itself because I've tested it with my xbox.

Can't get subwoofer to work with DTS Connect and Creative X-Fi Titanium

I like to play my computer games on my plasma TV using my 5.1 surround sound system. So to do this, I enable DTS Connect in the Creative control panel. Everything seems to work fine (I can hear sounds all around me), but the subwoofer doesn't seem to work.   Sometimes the LED on the sub will...

What is the best option for simulated surround sound when using a pair of stereo headphones these days?

I'm currently using Creative CMSS-3D and I like it, but I'm wondering if anything else has come onto the scene recently. I'm also aware of Dolby Headphone, but other than that I'm not aware of other options.   I have heard of Binaural audio.. what is this all about? And do many games support...

Why are the DT 990 Pros 70 bucks cheaper than the DT 770 Pros? (amazon.com)

I was looking at these two different set of cans today:   DT 770 Pro 80 ohm   DT 990 Pro 250 ohm   and I noticed a rather large discrepancy in price. I thought that since the 990s were the bigger number (more recent model I would assume?) that they would be more expensive, but this...

    A couple questions about Beyerdynamics

Hello; I am looking at a couple different Beyerdynamics for a friend of mine who is building a gaming PC. I have a pair of DT770 Pro 80ohm and absolutely love them.   However, after reading about the DT990 Pros, I'm thinking they may be the way to go because they're an open headphone. Which...

Looking for a sound card with these features

Quote: Ok, great.   The ONLY thing that I dislike about the Xonar is that I'm not sure where I would be at in terms of EAX effects.   I still play games like F.E.A.R. that use EAX (without OpenAL support), so having the Creative Titanium X-Fi is nice because it is able to faithfully...

Looking for a sound card with these features

Quote: Is the only difference between those cards their interface?   The DX is a PCI-e interface while the D1 is a PCI interface -- both cards are almost the exact same price. Is one interface better than the other? Does PCI have lower latency than PCI-e, or vice versa?   In short...

Looking for a sound card with these features

I need a sound card that has   Dolby Headphone Dolby Digital Live Digital optical output   I prefer Dolby Headphone over CMSS-3D (seems to have better positioning), but sometimes, I like to game on my plasma tv and use my real surround sound system. So for that, I need dolby digital...

    How to disassemble DT770?

Quote: Just want to say thanks for saying this; I did the same thing and it seemed to eliminate my rattle. I didn't take the driver all the way out -- I didn't want to mess with the silicone if I didn't have to. But I did thoroughly inspect the black foam piece for any hairs or other...

Looking for a good music headphone sub $60

Thanks for your suggestions -- The only thing is that discrete game/voice volume is quite important to me (and my brother(s)) as gaming is pretty much 100% of what the mixamp will be used for.   I actually already have an Astro mixamp, and I absolutely love it. The amount of inputs on the...

Looking for a good music headphone sub $60

What the title says..mostly. I want to get my brothers a good pair of headphones. One will be used for music listening/gaming while the other will be used primarily for gaming.   $60 (give or take a few) is the cap per headphone, not total.   Also, a mic is not necessary, but a headphone...

The ultimate gaming headset? (Beyerdynamic DT 770 microphone mod)

Looking for some DT770 mic mods..

Quote: Very interesting - I wonder if it matters which of the 3.5 plugs off of the Y-splitter you plug the headphones into, and which you plug the mic into? I would think that it would..   After searching around some more, I found this mic mod for the DT770. Looks pretty pro huh? I...

Looking for some DT770 mic mods..

Hey guys. I've searched around but haven't had much luck so far (finding instructions anyways), so I thought I'd ask.   I'm looking for some DT770 mic mods that people have done. I will mainly be using mine with the Astro mixamp while playing 360, so I don't even know how the voice is...

For the gamers out there -- Do you guys play with dolby digital headphone (simulated 5.1), or straight-up stereo?

No dude, the warranty is through the store itself. I just bring the phones into them, no numbers. The guy who told me this was like the guy running the "pro audio" section of the store. He wasn't se punk kid or anything. And I highly doubt he gets commission off the sale.

For the gamers out there -- Do you guys play with dolby digital headphone (simulated 5.1), or straight-up stereo?

Quote: I'm not a fan of ripping people off; the guy who sold me the phones says that's what they tell everyone to do if they ever want to upgrade. He said that it's how their warranty works (and admitted it's kind of stupid) and that they don't care if a customer purposely damages them...

For the gamers out there -- Do you guys play with dolby digital headphone (simulated 5.1), or straight-up stereo?

Quote: Well in all honesty, my original "budget" was around $300, but the DT770s were heavily recommended to me so I decided to try them out.   While they may not be optimal for games, they do seem lightyears better than the Astro A40 headset, and I got a warranty with them for 26...
