Zero Audio - ZH-DX200 Carbo Tenore | ZH-DX210 Carbo Basso (Carbon & Aluminium IEM) thread

I've used my set of Tenores most days for the past two years, and they're practically as good as new.

ABX of Balanced VS Single Ended Headphone Setup?

I am led to believe that the opposite is in fact true:   Quote:           This could be true in theory, but it is not very useful as advice. Yes, you could treat every single product as a "black box" and rely only on what it sounds like. Unfortunately nobody has the time or...

Need someone to explain this 'impedance' issue i have to me in 'audiophile for dummies' method

Do you still like the SE425 out of other sources? Then just stop using your AK100 and use something better, like your Note 4. If not, then you need new headphones. .

Need someone to explain this 'impedance' issue i have to me in 'audiophile for dummies' method

The P to S adapter basically 'adds output impedance'. That's why it changes ('distorts') the ER4P sound into the ER4S sound (note that 'distortion' here does not mean it sounds worse, just different).   Using the adapter with the AK100 would do the opposite of what you want - it would make the...

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions

Things like cymbals might sound a bit laid back, but it shouldn't affect the vocals at all.

The top 1.5 octaves are a little rolled off. However no human being can sing at that kind of fundamental frequency.

Is there really such a thing as a non - colored headphone ( are the HD800's/K702's immune )

Sorry, I don't think I explained it very well.   Imagine you're standing in front of a real guitarist (not a recording). The pure sound of the guitar travels towards you, but then it hits your shoulders, head, outer ear, ear canal, etc. It becomes distorted every time it hits one of these...

Is there really such a thing as a non - colored headphone ( are the HD800's/K702's immune )

Your music has already been digitally manipulated. This happens during music production, even before the CD was pressed. It's very odd that people never seem to complain about that part, though.   Actually, your CD player is fully digital. The tone controls on an amp are probably analog. Not...

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions

Gain is mostly relevant to where you set the volume knob (aside from clipping, which is obvious). The power going into the headphone is strictly limited by the voltage input and the headphone impedance by Ohm's law. At the same voltage, the power is the same whether the gain switch is set high...

vibro veritas, measuring our IEMs like a pro with amateur budget.

A PVC tube wouldn't have the correct acoustic impedance. An IEC 711 coupler is much more complex than a tube. As long as you're measuring IEMs you don't need a pinna simulator or a head and torso simulator.

Everyone, please take a step back and we can go back to discussing these headphones. Anyone know of any angled (90 or 45 degree) cables that fit the headphone end?

In-ear headphones more dangerous for ears?

It's the same: http://www.1964adel.com/detail ClieOS is right - in the end it's the level that's the most important. What this research is really saying is that their experimental membrane X gives you the same perceived loudness at lower overall levels than the control, making their...

    Aurisonics ROCKETS: Impressions Thread

Square wave response is pretty hard to interpret. You don't actually want a flat, perfect rectangle shape because that requires a perfectly flat FR (and that sounds terrible). There should be an initial overshoot because of the ~3KHz peak that IEMs should have.   Impulse response is even...

The Hybrid IEM Thread... The Best of Both Worlds?

When you read a graph, you shouldn't focus on what looks bad, you should practice recognising (often subtle) features that sound bad. This is the number-one reason why people claim graphs don't represent what they hear.   Upon first inspection, there seems to be a huge dip at about 4 KHz...

is there any way to replace the UE 600vi cable

Get a multimeter. Easy way is to do continuity testing on the jack you cut off - expose the wires on that and see which colour goes to which part of the jack plug.   If not look for two pairs that have resistance around 50 ohms. Those should be your two drivers. The last wire should have...

    V-Moda M-100s or ATH-M50s?

I'm not sure if the above poster has actually heard the M50, going by his comments on bass. The M50 has less bass than the M-100, and is only a small amount (around 4dB @ 100 Hz) above neutral. The M-100 has uneven treble and bloated bass in comparison, some people call this 'fun' but YMMV. If...

    The discovery thread!

3.7 volt batteries are generally standard lithium-ion ('lithium-cobalt') batteries. If you open up a laptop battery pack you'll find a bunch of these.   Ultrafire is generally considered a poor quality brand of Li-ion battery. You don't have that much choice in the 14500 size but anything...

Nice job, Joe and James. Apparently no amount of EQ can fully replicate the trainwreck of sound that is the UE700. :( What is your target response, Joe?   Anyone who doesn't have a rooted Android phone should be able to try the IRS files on their computer using any impulse response convolver...

How do you EQ a Frequency Response graph to produce a reference sound?

Essentially the OP can use the reference target as a base, but, yes, he should be making those final adjustments himself.   It seems hard because it is hard. You can simplify to a degree and still be 'good enough'; however you can see the inherent problems: someone's 'good enough' may be 'base...

Zero Audio - ZH-DX200 Carbo Tenore | ZH-DX210 Carbo Basso (Carbon & Aluminium IEM) thread

Have a look at the Heaven II, it's a fraction of the price and looks even better with Olive-Welti treble and pretty flat everywhere else (still has the harmonic distortion problem). It's too bad because Rin's graphs for all the FADs show about +5dB midbass compared to Tyll's for some reason.

How do you EQ a Frequency Response graph to produce a reference sound?

Your advice was: "I suggested those as an ideal model." [because they sounded flat to your ears].   Which has the underlying assumption that he hears like you do. Or are you suggesting the OP calibrate his headphones for your ears?   And the tones should sound, what? Equal in...
