The Most Annoying and Difficult game you've played.

I've never really understood all the talk about Demon's Souls being so difficult. I'm on my third playthrough with a level 128 character and never really had much of a problem. Sure you get killed a lot, but when you get killed it's because you made a mistake, so next time you learn from your...

Desktop speakers vs. my Senn 595s?

I think you'd be pretty pleased with the A2, and don't be fooled, they have plenty of bass so long as you're not trying to rattle pictures off the walls or anything. I am listening to my A2s right now and am very impressed with the quality (and volume) of which they are capable.

    When the Hardware Vanishes

The only DAC that I've ever heard (outside of onboard DACs in CD players) is my Firestone Audio Spitfire. When I ordered it I was half expecting to not hear much of a difference at all. However, when I hooked it up and gave it a listen I was quite impressed; the sound was much cleaner and more...

    When the Hardware Vanishes

Yeah, I was thinking a DAC upgrade might be my next move. I'm going to try and hold off on that for awhile if I can, at least until the money tree sprouts some new growth!

    When the Hardware Vanishes

lol, I suppose I could have used a somewhat less misleading thread title! I've got to say, I'm so incredibly pleased with my system right now. What I'm worried about though, is when I start to wonder about more expensive gear. If this sounds this good, then what does that sound like?!

    When the Hardware Vanishes

I got my Purity Audio Caliente today, and have been listening most of the day. For the first time since getting into this headphone hobby I have finally experienced the disappearance of the gear, that point at which there is nothing to hear but the music. I was sitting on my couch, lights...

REVIEW: Purity Audio K.I.C.A.S. Caliente home headphone amp - updated with comments on regular KICAS

I just got my Caliente this morning. Initial impressions are, as seems to be the norm, rather positive. Coming from a Little Dot MKII this is quite a revelation. Immediately I noticed much better instrument separation and clearer, more defined bass. Listening to Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, I was...

    Order of buying things

Buy the headphones first and get used to how they sound, then get the DAC and the headphones will impress you even more.

Sorry for the crappy picture quality. That's a pair of HD650s on the rack beneath the turntable, RS2s on the desk.

    Slowest headphones you've ever heard?

I'd just like to toss out my thoughts of the HD650's speed. When I first got them I considered them to be slow because of their laid-back character, but this is nonsense. To test the speed I listened to some fast Slayer (War Ensemble) and could clearly hear each and every note. The 650s do not...

    A Fork in the Road

I'll begin by saying that I am absolutely in love with my 650s. I'm quite happy with my setup as it is right now (in sig) but am wondering where to go from here. I am considering saving up to either: 1.) Upgrade my amp (perhaps WA6 SE) 2.) Upgrade my DAC (no considerations yet) I am...

    Sketchy eBay auction for HD650's?

Yeah, no kidding! I was pleased with their service for the most part. Shipping took two weeks from China to Ontario, though my only complaint was that they didn't actually package the headphones but rather wrapped the Sennheiser box with brown parcel paper. Still though, they managed to...

Strange Behaviour: iTunes and Optical DAC

Ok, I figured out the problem. I had a mini-to-mini cable plugged in to one of the audio jacks on the computer, and it seems that you just can't have more than one audio jack in use at a time. I unplugged the mini-to-mini and now the optical is working perfectly.

Strange Behaviour: iTunes and Optical DAC

The onboard optical is on a Dell Dimension 9200C. I tried connecting the DAC to the optical out on my HDTV (fed by PS3 via HDMI) and listened to the same mp3s I have on my computer, and everything worked perfectly. I just can't figure out why this isn't working directly from my computer.

Strange Behaviour: iTunes and Optical DAC

I received my new Spitfire DAC last week and have been using it via coax/cd player and am quite enjoying it. Now, the other day I realized that my computer had an onboard optical out, so I thought I'd try to hook up the Spitfire that way and see how it worked. Now, here's the weird thing...
