    The Reference 6SN7 Thread

Philips was a major tube maker but Philips also bought (the relevant part of) Sylvania and called it Philips ECG.

Yep. The shape and construction are quite unique. [Just a note that there are quite nice looking Chinese replicas of these: https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/kt66-valve-art.]

Or you could say that the Miniwatt-labeled ones are, in fact, GEC tubes.

No difference. Mullard made those tubes. Philips owned Mullard. Philips ECG = Sylvania. Philips bought (the relevant part of) Sylvania and called it Philips ECG. Buyers must educate themselves.

You could try calling it EL33 or EL3NG or 6M6G. :relaxed: https://www.radiomuseum.org/tubes/tube_el33.html

On the WIRAG, it is the letter A that makes them WIRAG. The MS is the type code (EL3N) here. The Mullard has an older type of Mullard code. I cannot explain the MS-. This is still a Mullard only code.

    ECC31/ECC32/ECC33/ECC34/ECC35 Tube Addicts

See these for 1) my guess of the Mullard code, and 2) for the CV code: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/ecc33-ecc35-tube-addicts.558352/page-3#post-9020495 https://www.valvecollector.uk/cv-valves.htm

    Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers

That's the UK Tungsram brand, a Philips/Mullard brand, which at this point had no connection with Tungsram in Hungary. I can't read the codes but those were made by somebody with Philips machines, possibly Mullard.

Nope. It was an ITT company like STC in UK and Standard Elektrik Lorenz in Germany.

Well, I have my guess. :relaxed: I guess that Sweden probably was able to buy them during the war because they had things to trade and they traded with whomever they could. See: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_iron-ore_mining_during_World_War_II

Yep, it's nonsense. Otherwise your external hard drive (etc.) wouldn't work. But not all rippers are created equal, especially with CDs in bad condition. Don't know about Windows Media.

I'm in the bit-perfect is bit-perfect camp. More bit-perfect does not compute.

    Feliks-Audio EUFORIA - A Wolf in "Sheep's" Clothing...

No, I don't think that they are Eindhoven tubes. Those are earlier Mullard-only codes. Don't read them as Philips codes like that. The 3A1 may be a 1953 tube and the 2F1 may be a 1952 tube but I'm not sure about that.

    Feliks-Audio EUFORIA - A Wolf in "Sheep's" Clothing...

I agree that they probably are French. Surely the Darios must be 1956 tubes with a YY.WW date. The other numbers are less clear…

CJ, where do you think those Philips tubes were made? Do they have codes that we can interpret?
