Email Notifications for Watched/Subscribed Threads
As someone who subscribes to a number of threads and checks in on them throughout the day via my email client, I'm not a fan at all of the new email format that only includes the first few characters of each post. (Also, notification seemed to break entirely for me on 2/2.) Is there a way for...- Spankypoo

ADC recommendations? (DAC, too.)
I've got a project that I'm trying to select an ADC for, and I'm wondering what the cream-of-the-crop stuff is these days. I'll potentially be using a number of 'em, so it'd be nice if they weren't insanely pricey. They do need to be of very high quality, but I don't need them to be made from...- Spankypoo

Best of the Sony EX/Senn CX/Sharp MD/etc. variety?
A few years ago I had some Sony EXs, and really enjoyed 'em, until the cables hardened and broke. Three big reasons I enjoyed 'em: 1. The tips provided enough isolation to be useful, but didn't require the insertion technique IEMs with foamies/olives/tri-flanges. Way quick to pop in and...- Spankypoo

Best custom IEM to replace ER-4S?
Hey all, Not trolling, and not looking to start a bicker-fest. But if a guy loves his ER-4Ss and just wants a better version of those, what's the current thinking custom IEMs? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on some UE10s, but I understand some people aren't sold on the highs. The reviews...- Spankypoo

So *now* what's the conventional wisdom on the Shuffle size bump?
Given the lack of updates to the Shuffle at the Nano/ROKR release, what're your bets as to if/when the shuffle's going to get a bump? I'm ready to buy, but don't want to fall prey to Apple's rev cycle. Any ideas?- Spankypoo

Shuffle Size Bump
What's the latest thinking on when the Shuffles will get a size bump? I'm ready to get one, but if they're gonna bump 'em within the next couple months I'm happy to wait. Any recent rumors circulate?- Spankypoo

Video question for geeks
Does anyone know if the nVidia Geforce4 5200 Go supports WUXGA? In other words, can this: http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...,119420,00.asp Be driven by this?: http://www.lowendmac.com/pb2/12-100.html It supports up to 2048 x 1536, but I know that's not necessarily meaningful...- Spankypoo

A better Mac music library manager?
A'ite, I'm sick of iTunes. I'm not here to argue about it, 'cuz I loved it when I had 3,300 songs encoded. But now that I'm up to over 33,000 it's just getting painfully slow. I know Linux has its library managers which do a much faster job of handling big'ns - anything available for the Mac...- Spankypoo

Alert: $200 HD600s on Amazon (Friday only)
It's taking a lotta willpower not to order these. Add it to the cart, $199. Today only. Dang. (Sorry if this is a dup/in the wrong place, etc. They are, after all headphones...) http://slickdeals.net/?pno=5745&lno=2&afsrc=1- Spankypoo

E4c Audition
Auditioned the E4c (along with the E5c, for the first time). I was very disappointed by the E5c. The bass was too blatty, and the highs unacceptably rolled-off. I don't mind it if something's weak, but I thought the bass was offensively bad. If they cost less, I would have had a different...- Spankypoo

KSC-75s arrived today - first impressions
Actually, they arrived yesterday. I ordered 'em Thursday night from Amazon, throwing in a William Byrd Naxos disc to bring it just above $25, and used the free shipping option. To my surprise, they shipped Friday morning, and arrived on Saturday. I didn't notice that they were by my door...- Spankypoo

Bose (eek!) Roommate Question
I've got an old, OLD pair of Bose Roommates (bought 'em with an Apple IIgs, the week it came out...heh, heh), which I just pulled out of storage. They've been sitting, unused, for at least 7 years. When I plug 'em in, I can hear both speakers pop, same when I unplug 'em. But plugging them...- Spankypoo

A way to review reviews?
There's been a few completely effusive reviews posted as of late - is anyone else frustrated by their lack of utility value? 'I bought this, and I love it! It's worth three times what it costs!' Neither reasoning nor comparison is given. It's great when somebody jumps into Head-Fi, all...- Spankypoo

Detailing Vendor Experiences in Public?
I saw that a thread was locked because it focused on the vendor experience, not the equipment. While I understand the reasoning behind wanting to keep vendor feedback in the feedback section, I still think there's some merit in us discussing with each other how we get treated when we trust a...- Spankypoo

Fake iPod buds = White MX400s?
These fake iPod buds look awfully like MX400s - s'pose they have the same case supplier? I was under the impression Sennheiser made their own cases, but perhaps not. (Er, case ≠ the spinny thing which comes with it to wind up the cords, in this, er, case. I mean the plastic part of the bud.)...- Spankypoo

iPod Battery Replacement: How Risky?
I know a girl who works at the Fashion Island, CA Apple Store, and she said they have 30+ people coming in weekly with dead iPods due to botched battery replacements. She said most accidently disconnect internal cables without noticing, but many had been damaged due to board flex, etc...- Spankypoo

Airport Express (Analog) Audio Quality
Has anyone run any tests on the AE to see what its audio quality is like? How would it compare against the 3G iPod's line-out? And how well would it work for a headphone setup, running into an amp? Anyone tried it in this config?- Spankypoo

That Fresh (Foamies) Feeling
Anyone else love new foamies? After a couple months the isolation and the sound suffer quite a bit, but I don't notice because I'm a turtle in boiling water. I changed them a minute ago, and it's like getting a much better op-amp or something. Exept it's a $2 upgrade. Nothing like having...- Spankypoo

iTunes 4.7
Anyone know of any differences? Macintouch cites photo support and a feature which looks for duplicate tracks. Anyone know if the AAC encoder is as good as the 4.5 version? Anyone else annoyed by excessively long sigs?
Is it just me being retentive, or does anyone else get sick of scrolling through messages where there's one line of text, and 16 lines of signature? Major advance in study of hearing
A protein (unique in its construction) is thought to have a key role in hearing. (Full article.) Quote: "People have been looking for this protein for a decade," he says. It is called TRPA1 (pronounced 'trip-ay-one') and forms a "trap door" that is tugged open when a passing sound...- Spankypoo

Etys are inhibiting my satisfaction!
I just got a copy of a still-unreleased album which I've been eager to hear for months, and while I'm excited to listen to it, the kook who encoded it picked an encoder/setting which does very badly on decay and lower-frequency hums. Think Massive Attack's Angel and how it can gurgle on the...- Spankypoo
