Sorry, I meant to say that the midrange on the Denons is darker than that on the PM3 whilst the treble response on the Denon is slightly more excited. Reason for comparison is that I own the PM3 and it's a very popular model in a similar-ish price range, at least in Australia.

Agreed, very much looking forward to PM3 vs. MM400 impressions.  Just ordered the Audeze EL-8, but still need a pair for portability, and struggling between PM3 and MM400 :)

Please please please do a comparison between EL8 and the MM400!!!

For me, I enjoyed the Oppo PM3 and MM400 for different reasons: the PM3 was easy to listen to ....laid back...great when you want that....   The MM400 was more dynamic and exciting...I could only afford one and that was the MM400.   The Oppo was a close second!

I've listened to PM3, and I prefer my MM400.The Denon has better balanced transition from the bass to the mids. PM3 draw a little more attention to the bass, while the Denon doesn't emphasize any of the frequency ranges. Good luck picking the one that suits you better.

Sorry, so you're saying the PM3 treble is not as pronounced as the Denon's? Maybe I'm mis-understanding what you mean by 'dark', but shouldn't the PM3's be darker if they have a lesser treble response?   Plus I'm not sure where the PM3 comparison is coming from. In the UK there is roughly £150...

The fact I haven't tried the PM3 is wearing me down. I just need to find a place in Sydney close by that has them on demo. I've demo'd the PM1 with a Hugo Chord and the sound was out of this world. No idea how close the PM3's would come.

The PM3 is objectively a better headphone, it's sound just isn't for everyone. Comfort and build wise, I think it's better than the MM400 unless your ears already fit well within the small earcups of the Denons.

I love these headphones. I am curious to know how they compare to the oppo pm3 though. I have read several reviews that say that neither is better than the other, they just differ. I like the sound signature of these headphones. I almost want to just go ahead and assume that there's no reason to...

It looks like the same lay out as the oppo pm3, somebody can make a balanced cable with that configuration

Glad you like them. Interesting to see what you think of the PM3. They are quite a bit more over here..

darker = recessed then? Or is it more tonal than relative loudness? Dark seems to be a confused term

My Denons fit nicely....the tour PM3's were looser but that was probably due to the different numbers of heads   using it.

Have you heard them both? I have read the PM3 is flatter sounding, so not the exact same sound signature. Who is selling the Denons in Oz?

So I've gone to the PM3 thread and there are discussions around excessive clamp force, intermittent static from the drivers and the fact the ear cups are plastic. People are also saying they sound completely different from their siblings, which was the part I was excited about, the prospect of...

... As the EL8 haven't shipped yet I won't be able to compare that.   I'll probably drive 30 minutes to Oppo headquarter in Mt.View to check out PM3 still.  From extrapolating all feedback for PM3 and MM400 vs. say Z7, H6, etc.. it seems the two phones at the very least offer excellent SQ...

Sure, when I hear over-ear I would be expect it will be comfortable too.   And I would be interested hearing MM400 vs EL-8. :)

There's also the oppo pm3 if balanced is a must, I auditioned  bout and ended up liking the  denons better but the oppo is a great headphone as well

I have both and prefer the sound of the MM400s. I prefer the PM3s for everything else: build, comfort, aesthetics. The sound signatures of both are similar, but the PM3 sounds drier to me which could be just from better dampening and less resonance. I love both though and appreciate these slight...

Just quickly tried a brand new, straight out of the box Oppo PM3 at Oranges and Lemons in London (great place, definitely recommend it to Londonders). Source: Sony ZX2. Cables are much, much better than MM400 stock in terms of feel/comfort. Even easier to replace than the MM400 because the...

@musikaladin I think I miss understood you, but I'm thinking the 4 pins on the female plug is probably so you can run a balanced cable they did the same thing with the oppo pm3.

I'm on the list for the pm3 loaner program, I am curios to try them and see what the fuzz is about but for what I've read they should be on par with the mm400

...experience with the Panda tbh. Just more refined, newer standards and built around the driver can never be a bad thing. I hadn't listened to the PM3 for a while before listening to the Panda so I can't comment directly what has changed, unfortunately. It was similarly quite balanced and...

More tonal, the PM3's have more upper midrange presence. I compared them directly yesterday.
