DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread
Has anyone ever come across a product to repair or replace the outer insulating jacket on a thin IEM cable? I have some VSonic GR07 Bass Edition IEMs from 2013 that don't have a ton of time on them but the outer cable insulation is disintegrating. If it's not possible to repair/replace that...- Yardstick

Help with DAC/AMP recommendation to fix noisy audio out
The cluster with the audio ports has a Firewire and two USB connections. There's another board in close proximity with an eSATA connection too. I found a pinched ground wire that wasn't actually grounded except where it was pinched. It was between layers of the case so it must have been...- Yardstick

Help with DAC/AMP recommendation to fix noisy audio out
It looks like there are two cables from the motherboard to the little cluster of connections on top of the case. There's a microphone and headphone jack and then several data connections, including two USB ports. Maybe I can isolate the audio connections and disconnect or depin the others. I...- Yardstick

Help with DAC/AMP recommendation to fix noisy audio out
No, I haven't tried power cables without a ground pin on the JBLs. They don't seem to have as much background hiss as the headphones. They are plugged into a 3.5mm jack on the back of the motherboard. The headphones are quieter when plugged into that jack too. The plug on top of the case is...- Yardstick

Help with DAC/AMP recommendation to fix noisy audio out
I did a quick check and couldn't find a compatible Apple Dongle. This is for a PC with USB 2.0 and 3.0 outputs. It's more than I was originally thinking of spending but the S.M.S.L M500 looks like an interesting option. Funny update - I saw a review of a Schiit Modi 3 somewhere that talked...- Yardstick

Help with DAC/AMP recommendation to fix noisy audio out
I need some help narrowing down a DAC or DAC/AMP combo for computer audio. The primary purpose is for playing music through over ear headphones while I'm working but I might use it for JBL 308s too. The 3.5 mm audio out jacks on the motherboard and case of my desktop are noisy. There's an...- Yardstick

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?
I've been intrigued by these TWE's lately, but haven't taken the plunge. I was under the impression that the sound quality suffered too much with wireless solutions. And the early BT headphones weren't really "wireless" so that was never appealing. I'm not sure why I need TWE's since I have a...- Yardstick

high end IEMs for motorcycling
I was thinking a custom IEM solution would be better than the off the shelf offerings. I'm starting to change my mind on that after doing some searching. I thought that one of the major reasons to have custom IEMs was for the isolation. I can only find one manufacturer that claims a specific...- Yardstick

high end IEMs for motorcycling
I wonder if one of the Shure IEMs from higher in the range might give you the sound you're looking for along with the isolation. I listened to some four BA driver Shures (can't recall the model, but it wasn't the 846) and the detail was improved, but not so much that I felt I needed a pair. :)...- Yardstick

high end IEMs for motorcycling
Most of the time I ride with regular foam ear plugs, but sometimes I ride with Shure SE215's. Mine are the standard version with Shure foam tips. They isolate well under an Arai XD4 for wind noise on my KTM 990 Adventure and 950 Super Enduro. For me it wouldn't be worth having something...- Yardstick

Physical System for High Frequency Acoustic Attenuation
I thought high frequencies would be easier to block independent of the rest of the frequency range, but it turns out it's a little more complicated when you want to retain lower frequencies as much as possible. It might work to block the sound to the mic in the vehicle though. Putting a hand...- Yardstick

Physical System for High Frequency Acoustic Attenuation
Thank you for the response and link. It gives me some ideas to try. I may look into an electronic solution as well. I might have an idea if that's an option when I get access to the microphone.- Yardstick

Physical System for High Frequency Acoustic Attenuation
Anybody else think that title sounds like something from a research paper rather than a forum post? :D I'm trying to figure out a good physical system or material to block high frequencies from getting to a microphone. I haven't found much when searching for a 'physical low pass audio filter'...- Yardstick
