MHDT Labs: R-2R NOS Tube DACs

utsource is a Chinese supplier. I bought many components from this source. Some of them were bad quality, some of them were not working or failed after a short time of usage.   When I owned MHDT Havana I tested many PCM56P chips: Korean, Malaysian, Japanese, K,J,L grade. I suppose all of...

MHDT Lab Pagoda: A review ...

The DAC may lose its old school sound character without the tube buffer especially with PCM1704 DAC on board. I think it loses that magical, sweet sound the people love it for...   PCM1704 it detailed and cold and sounding rather like the modern DACs.

MHDT Lab Pagoda: A review ...

thanks Joel, good work... I think I'm gonna get the Pagoda in the nearest future, I'm just wondering how it compares to my other reference DACs, no worries, no upgrades this time :)... but replacing the chips PCM1704 with K grade would tempt me...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

My friend did already managed to compare Dave to DCS Vivaldi stack and the Dave was absolutly superior to DCS with detail retrieval.   In his subjective opinion Dave is world's best DAC in that catagory, I suppose Total DAC would be in big troubles while comparing. But we will know when we...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

Thanx Rob for thermal explaination, all I have to do now is to compare Dave with your old SX-512 which I consider it to be the best DAC ever released.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

I'm very curious how the Dave sounds. I have to test it.  I'm a little worried about the high temperature inside the DAC. Heat problem is known from DPA Dacs, which Rob designed many years ago. What about the Dave Rob, why does it become so hot? Can we run it with continuos play for 24h a day?

    MHDT Havana DAC

Quote: I had a look at Pagoda. Great DACs inside, PCM1704. One of the finest DAC's chip ever made. There is a chance for a great sound.

    MHDT Havana DAC

I guess you use a computer for audio. If so, try to put some distance between the DAC and the computer. The hiss should disappear.

In the case of capacitors higher voltage is always better.
