I currently have a pair of Sony MDR MA900, would these be an improvement or at least equivalent in terms of quality? I'm familiar with the whole open-back vs closed-back difference.

How much of an upgrade would these be (open-back) coming from an Sony Ma900?

I've seen a lot of Sony headphones here at my university, along with a lot of Beats headphones.   I saw one guy with a pair of MDR-1Rs and a guy with K701's.

I wonder if they're gonna make a MDR MA 1000 sequel to these for around the same price

Right now I'm still torn between which of these headphones to get. I would be using them for the bus and school, and would be using just my iphone to drive them. I can get a pair of 1Rs for about $160 and a pair of Momentums for $210.
