Go-Vibe noise
Amping the headphone out is not going to give optimal results. It might even make things worse. Have you tried a line out? (dock, etc...)- midlife

Jack of all trade headphones
I don't know of an open headphone that is useful in any situation that has ANY background noise. They're just not designed for it. My Jack of all Trades is a pair of Senn HD25-1 with velour pads and a cable upgrade. I can listen while travelling, or while the kids are watching tv or use as...- midlife

suggestions for amps well suited for both hd650 and grados?
I love my MAD Earplus HD "extream" with my Grado 325i and it was nice with AKG 401's as i remember, but I haven't enjoyed it with my Senn 580's. The sound is a bit smudged and gritty. When compared to a Govibe3.- midlife

Hi-MD's only real advantage... bettered.
One noteable thing about the current crop of Sony HI MD's and I assume the new model as well is very low noise, high gain preamps. Over on the nature recordists site and phonography sites, these units are being used with portable phantom power supplies and good, low noise condenser mics and are...- midlife

Is there something wrong with my HD580s?
My 580's sound shrill with my MAD ear plus hd tube amp. Quite unpleasant really. So I use a govibe3 or even the inboard headphone amp on my mackie mixer when I listen to my 580's. The MAD sounds great with my Grado 325i, SennHD25-1, Ety ER6i and AKG 401 though. Maybe the 580 is more amp finicky...- midlife

post-audition blues: portapro, sr60 & sr80
I know it's just a jab. And yes a lot of modern music is engineered towards a hyperreal bottom end. Not to mention mastered so hot that there are little or no dynamics. And don't get me started on autotuned vocals...- midlife

Just got some px100s, first impressions
Try them with different pads. 414 pads really bring out the mids and treble. Anything that gets the drivers a bit off the ear will really make these sound great. And that's number 200. Thank you very much.- midlife
