    Jack of all trade headphones

I don't know of an open headphone that is useful in any situation that has ANY background noise. They're just not designed for it. My Jack of all Trades is a pair of Senn HD25-1 with velour pads and a cable upgrade. I can listen while travelling, or while the kids are watching tv or use as...

suggestions for amps well suited for both hd650 and grados?

I love my MAD Earplus HD "extream" with my Grado 325i and it was nice with AKG 401's as i remember, but I haven't enjoyed it with my Senn 580's. The sound is a bit smudged and gritty. When compared to a Govibe3.

    Hi-MD's only real advantage... bettered.

One noteable thing about the current crop of Sony HI MD's and I assume the new model as well is very low noise, high gain preamps. Over on the nature recordists site and phonography sites, these units are being used with portable phantom power supplies and good, low noise condenser mics and are...

Is there something wrong with my HD580s?

My 580's sound shrill with my MAD ear plus hd tube amp. Quite unpleasant really. So I use a govibe3 or even the inboard headphone amp on my mackie mixer when I listen to my 580's. The MAD sounds great with my Grado 325i, SennHD25-1, Ety ER6i and AKG 401 though. Maybe the 580 is more amp finicky...

    post-audition blues: portapro, sr60 & sr80

I know it's just a jab. And yes a lot of modern music is engineered towards a hyperreal bottom end. Not to mention mastered so hot that there are little or no dynamics. And don't get me started on autotuned vocals...

Just got some px100s, first impressions

Try them with different pads. 414 pads really bring out the mids and treble. Anything that gets the drivers a bit off the ear will really make these sound great. And that's number 200. Thank you very much.

Senn 580 trade for A900s? Worht it?

If you can find a used set of Senn hd25-1's these are great for live mixing. Very tough, can wear around the neck, one earpiece is swivelled so you can listen with only one side if desired. Decent isolation and good sound. cable is replaceable and velour earpads are available for increased...

Has owning great headphones changed the music styles you listen to?

Unfortunately there is a great deal of music that is poorly recorded, for a variety of reasons. And good headphones, or any audiophile gear for that matter make the recording quality or lack of quite apparent. So it's easy to get caught up in listening for sonics above other, more important imo...

    Anyone else tired of IEM's?

I love my HD25 1's, but they don't have even remotely the isolation of my Er6i. I can use the senns for blocking out television and if the environment is not too urban, they're great for portable use. For commuting/air travel and traffic heavy areas, the Er6i gets the nod. Both have positive and...

I'm A HD-280 Pro User, But Want More Isolation. What Are Some Options?

I use Etymotic ER6i's for tracking and playing along to tunes on the drums. I have tried SP25-1 and they don't work. Period. IEM's are the only solution except perhaps for some of the specialized headsets that are based on industrial/shooters headsets with headphone drivers implanted. I haven't...
