    Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9 and ATH-ESW9A Thread

Not at all. A largest portion of my music library is female vocal so any headphone that would make them shouty/strident would be gotten rid of. I've auditioned numerous brands and for me AT just fits my preferences the best. I don't have golden ears and can not elucidate with the flowery...

    Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9 and ATH-ESW9A Thread

As I don't own an HD650 (and haven't listened to one in a decade?) I'll demur to those who have both. However I can state that for portability the ESW9A wins out. However it loses the replaceable cables as well as not having the velour pads (some people prefer that style). The upper mids...

    Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9 and ATH-ESW9A Thread

No issues; I've made plenty of mistakes! And you are correct that the over/on ear is different. Keeping it in house the W1000X/Z (evening allowing the 9mm bigger drivers) sounds more neutral with a wider soundstage than the ESW9A. But I would not wear either of those out and about and some...

    Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9 and ATH-ESW9A Thread

Just pointing out that the HD650 and the ESW9A have the same sized (42mm) drivers. While I never cared much for the Sennheiser house sound the HD650 is indeed more neutral than the ESW9A. However, on tracks like Leticia Wolf's "It's Fine" or anything with wood instruments it's sublime...

    DLNA In Home Music Streaming

Thanks for the example; even with all the caveats (tired old ears, youtube compression, playing it out of a Marshall Stanmore) I could also here differences. I am cynical, but let's assume there's no tomfoolery going on. I.E. the microphone placement hasn't changed, volume matching was going...

I need your wisdom on DAC and AMPS for PC/Headphone!

A Schiit Fulla is a good recommendation; unless you used the manual level microphone control on your Foucsrite. To retain that you have to step up to the Schiit Hel. However you will lose the instrument inputs from your Focusrite. The Schiit Hel offers 650mW at 50 ohms versus the 30mW the...

    DLNA In Home Music Streaming

Thanks for trying to make me feel not so bad. :) Don't feel bad about stock levels; it's a worldwide problem. I won't claim to have golden ears so I am not sure where the "usb is noisy" comes into play. After all on a SPDIF connection the dongle is going to be converting the USB signal into a...

    DLNA In Home Music Streaming

You are correct that Raspberry Pi doesn't have optical out. He stated that "SPDIF out does require a HAT". Using a USB to SPDIF (such as this one...

[FiiO M17] Dual ES9038PRO, dual THXAAA-788+, dual power supplies, 9200mAh battery, 2 volume control modes

It's not so bad if a buffer is used. Suppose one listens to wav. A full album would be 700mb. Even using an USB 2.0 to nvme bridge the whole album would be buffered in less than 28 seconds; meaning that the next hour and a 19.5 minutes the drive would be in its deepest sleep mode.

[FiiO M17] Dual ES9038PRO, dual THXAAA-788+, dual power supplies, 9200mAh battery, 2 volume control modes

Alright; we agree that manufacturer implemented it. It's not native but it's implemented. I've also conceded that the speed increase from using nvme isn't important in a previous post. My wish for it is rather capacity. As your posts indicate an individual who is combative and and interested...

I remember when Fiio was using Nokia batteries and people were talking crap about them. Now look at them. Thus I have faith in their engineering.

[FiiO M17] Dual ES9038PRO, dual THXAAA-788+, dual power supplies, 9200mAh battery, 2 volume control modes

I don't think that the speed is such an issue for the cards; I don't have any data but how many people simply shove the card(s) into their DAP to format it and then transfer the files that way resulting in the DAP being the bottleneck. Of even if they do the initial 'fill' of the card through a...

[FiiO M17] Dual ES9038PRO, dual THXAAA-788+, dual power supplies, 9200mAh battery, 2 volume control modes

Funnily enough the standby draw can be less on nvme over microSD. And with race to sleep a sufficiently large buffer could allow the nvme drive to get back to standby more quickly.
