A manual camera will force you to think about aperture, shutter speed, and dof before you take pictures. So FM2, F3 or F2 get my vote.

Yes, that's what sony says. I understand it is measured at optimal setting and almost all manufactures measure battery life at optimal setting.

Sony A828 can play 32hours with one charge. I think that's pretty good.
