Recommend me a Headphone / Desktop Amp combo

Currently I'm using the RCA outputs on a Sony CDP-307 ESD for CD's, SACD player is a Sony 5-disc SACD player (forgot the model #). The CDP-307 actually sounds better playing standard cd's than the SACD player. so that's why I use 2 separate players. Since i'm very happy with the Garage 1217...

    New Member Introductions thread

Hello all. Not exactly new to the forum, but have been away from Head-Fi for a while. Running a Lawn Care business plus working full-time as a CNC operator doesn't leave much free time. I recently sold the lawn care business and now have time to get back to things I enjoy. So - hello again. lol

Recommend me a Headphone / Desktop Amp combo

I'm in the market for a Headphone / Desktop Tube Amp combo. I have a $1000 budget, so I want to get the best that I can for the money. I don't need a DAC, as I mostly listen to Redbook CD's and SACD's. I prefer over-ear headphones and would prefer a tube amp - doesn't need to be portable...

    Today's CL Score

Today's Craigslist score includes 3 pairs of vintage headphones:   1. Old Realistic Custom Pro Stereo Headphones 2. Realistic LV-10 (KOSS HV-1) Headphones 3. Pioneer Monitor 10 Headphones       The RS Custom Pro set is junk - it works, but that's about all you can say for them.  The...

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?s=59fcc8ffe96e700f49abf7c29ca2b107&t=122359#post1298370   The above link is an old AK thread (with links at the bottom) that will describe the process and list the materials you'll need. It's not much, but it is something to go by on short notice.

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

If there was any leakage, it would show up on the board below the cap - or at least running down the legs of the cap.  Most of the film caps I've seen that did bust either cracked also or bulged out on one side or the other, but I never did see one blow up like a balloon.   Temperature wise -...

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

+1 - I've seen that before also with larger capacity film caps.  No leakage, tested fine with meter, I think they just try to stuff more into a package that size.   Definitely look for signs of cracking or leakage.  If none, I would'nt lose any sleep over it. They can always be replaced down...

Sony SCD-CE595 now plays SACD's, not just CD's

About a week ago I purchased a used Sony SCD-CE595 off Craigslist for a very good price.  I've been playing CD's on it the past week, and the first of my two SACD's arrived today = Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon.   When inserted in the player, it only read the CD layer and when the sacd/cd...

    Pioneer SE-A1000 (Sennheiser HD 650 for $45?)

Give 'em 50-60 hours to burn in then report back with your findings.  I think you'll like them even more.

Don't forget local Antique Malls - where dealers setup booths.  I've found a few good deals there on occasion.  But like everywhere else, many items are overpriced at the same time.

    Taking the plunge into SACD.

Well all, just picked up an old Sony SCD-CE595 SACD 5-CD Changer off of Craigslist for $50 - with manual and remote.   I just hooked it up, and it's been sitting for a couple of years so I'm giving it some time to burn-in. According to the original owner, it never saw much use.  He tried a...

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

The Headphone Out on my mid 90's Pioneer Elite VSX-79 sounds great and with hardly any hiss at all using 32-ohm headphones (Pioneer SE-A1000's).  Note that an extreme volume setting is needed to actually hear said hiss. If I didn't already have a dedicated headphone amp, I could use this beast...

Do you own a vintage CD player? (pics please!)

What's amazing is that they both play CD-R's perfectly, despite their age.
