And just take a look what amp @Saberpunch is using for his A800  Allnic HPA-5000XL is very impressing, grats! It just shows what potential they have. Tubes are perfect world for A800.
I am still listening and enjoying Onkyo in the meantime also on tubes with peculiar amp - Yamamoto HA-02 :), which is low power but quite capable with sensitive headphones. But the more time I spend with Onkyo the more I am impressed.. With holographic soundstage it can easily stand up to TOTL planars.
Bold statement that is. 300 euros dynamic drivers in the same category as 5000 euros planars?

I mean holographic soundstage with tubes here. For example take expanisve LCD3 or LCD4 and as far as I know you will not get impressive, layered soundstage.
Resolution and transparency is lower than planars imho but still very good.

BTW Some the best of all time are also dynamic driver (Sony R10 or AKG K1000) so planar technology is not a solution for everything.

I never said planar technology is the solution for everything. There are excellent dynamic driver headphones. I think the soundstage is quite impressive and layered on the LCD4 though.

By impressive I mean holographic - well extended in all directions (up, down, depth and width). So in a result sounds are floating around your head even behind ears or almost in front of your face. I don't know many headphones that can do it, just a few and with proper amplification suitable to that particular headphone. Moreover proportions needs to be good, there are headphones that can make very wide soundstage but other directions are sacrificed.

Thanks, I like your amp too. Extremely rare to see a Yamamoto HA-02 in 2023. The Yamamoto HA-02 is known for powering the old school ATH woodies and have the best synergy with them. That’s pretty cool that they work with the Onkyo A800 as well.

Yes, Yamamoto is great with ATH (I have W5000 and W1000Z). But I find them specialized in acoustic music presenting guitar, cello, piano or violin in quite magical way, very realistic. Texture and timbre of this instruments is first class with ATH. For example only because of W5000 I listened some albums that are all about acoustic guitar :) But I see you have very special one ATH - L3000. I wonder how it would pair with Yamamoto.. Maybe someday.

However this amp is amazing also for some other headphones with low impedance and high efficiency. So Onkyo with 32 ohm and 100dB is a perfect match for him. And it is more versatile than ATH, great for genres like pop / rock / dance / R&B / blues and any vocals. Onkyo has the energy that makes you move even while sitting  David Bowie - Let's dance is good example.

But in my setup ultimate synergy I find with Pioneer SE Monitor-5. It is highly resolving bio-cellulose driver which responds incredibly for Yama's small tubes. I always liked biocellulose for its organic, softer character. And with this duo I have the best results so far - professional, monitor approach by Pioneer with neutral rather flat tuning + organic, softer timbre of the driver + tube magic by Yamamoto (lightning fast, emotional, subtle, holographic, full of "colours").
