A great condition 009, with the original wooden box, outer cardboard box, and paperwork.

I bought these Open-Box from an authorized Stax dealer and they look to be in great condition. Always kept under a Stax dust cover on a stand, or stored in the box. I don't see any marks or scratches.

I can also include a Stax 353X amplifier/energizer for $450 if you're interested. Great amp that powers these headphones beautifully (the volume knob goes to 10, and I'm is usually at around 4. This amp is now out of stock pretty much everywhere and seems to go used for around $800. You can have a TOTL, end-game electrostatic rig for $2650.

I loved these so much, I've decided to get the 009s, and to commission a KGSSHV Carbon. (Really hoping that will be an upgrade.)

Good price and condition. I've good my 009 9 years ago. I am the first batch user.

I would like to say, Compared with 009, 009S is not an all round upgrade. Its more like another headphone similar to 009 but with different tuning. More importantly, compared with 009, 009S request much less driving power. Which means you can combine it with a lot of amps.

I've tried 727, 717, T8000 and BHSE with my 009, and I've picked BHSE. It is the only amp that offer enough power to drive 009. 727 and 717 lack of basic control over 009. T8000 performs much better, but only in direct mode with a good pre-amplifier (mine is KRELL EVO222). Among these amps, only BHSE are power enough to tame the 009.

009S, on the other hand, works best with T8000. It is much easier to be driven compared with 009 due to the gold coating driver. With T8000, its more STAX style but not KG Style.

Compared with 009, 009S is with slightly warmer mid-tone, and more 'bouncing' bass. 009, on contrast, has better high range extension.

To conclude, offering great driving power is a dual edge blade. You get better control over your headphone, but you lose the smoothness and the 'silky texture' of sound, which a lot of people consider as fundamental difference between electrostatic and dynamic headphones. So its your choice to select your favorite sound.

Thanks for that comment -- makes me wonder whether I should just hold on to my 009, which sounds pretty incredible, even with the 353X (which I recognize is no Blue Hawaii).

You can try to get one KGSSHV first and try it with your 009. KG series electrostatic amp generally have greater driving power than the STAX ones, which means they suit 009 better.
