Disclosure notice:
I am the second owner, purchased from a user in a home where smoking was present.
The ear pads and headband smell like smoke, albeit I have been trying to air them out slowly.
They do smell better than when I received them, but as you likely know, this smell is difficult to get rid of, without replacement of the pads and/or headband.

Condition is excellent otherwise and the headphones work great.
Low hours, drivers work well, and this is (frankly) a great listen.
The only reason I am getting rid of this is to welcome my incoming Hifiman Shangri-la Sr.

It is among my favorite headphones, especially in the electrostatic field.
The perfect complementary pair to X9000.

The sound is smooth, but it maintains SO much detail. I found them to NEVER be fatiguing, while also toting great bass for an estat.

To be honest for not informing about smoke environment previous owner should refund you minimum 1/3 of their value. It is so bad and dishonest practise without warning potential buyers. Ozone generator also helps to get rid much off it. For example hang them in the car when air conditioner will be cleaned with pure ozone.

I've been trying to think of a safe way to use my ozone generator with it.

Hard to figure out a way without damaging any space or the headphones themselves.

I'm pretty certain you can get the ear pads and headband replaced for $200 or so from Dan Clark for anyone interested.

This was my first thought as well, maybe you can ask DCA if ozon generator would damage the drivers? Maybe you can remove the headband and pads and then use the ozon generator, the smoke should then be removed completely.

As a general update for those who may be interested:
The smoke smell is still there, but it is faint now.

I have spent a lot of time airing these out in a well-ventilated and filtered area.
This has slowly helped to dissipate the smell.
