Selling a mint Audeze LCD4. I sold these a few weeks ago and when I shipped them they were perfectly functional and sounded awesome. When the buyer received them they arrived with a dead left driver. Not sure what happened in shipping them but needless to say they've now come back to me broken and I don't have the $1200 to get both drivers fixed.

Audeze has quoted $1200 for both drivers as they only do matched sets so they'll replace both. This extends their warranty for a new duration of three years so you'll have a warranty until late 2027. They also replace all of the foam backings and the pads as well to 2023 pads.

I'm selling these at a HUGE loss for me but I need to recoup some money back.

So, Audeze already diagnosed the drivers and determined that they need to be replaced. That means, it’s unlikely to be a discontinuity issue? The headphones look beautiful.

Audeze doesn’t diagnose anything. They just ask for the headphones to be shipped and they replace them. They’re a business. Not a repair shop. They quoted the $1200 for a sight unseen unit and will replace the drivers, pads, run new measurements and send them right back.

You said something to the effect of taking the headphones to Audeze for ‘evaluation’. So, I assumed they looked at the unit physically, ran some tests and determined, the drivers need to be replaced. Otherwise, what is there to evaluate in a non-working unit. Sorry, I misunderstood you.

Edit: sorry, the buyer mentioned about evaluation, not you.

All good. Audeze doesn’t care one way or another. They’re so busy that they just have a queue of repairs that their technicians are working on and don’t have time to diagnose and communicate with customers and provide option's.

Allow me to clarify, the headphone never made it to the Audeze Support Center. The quote and description of work to be done and warranty were all conveyed via email. I offered to drop them off but apparently that's not their normal procedure. It took several days before they got back to me with the instruction of how to drop them off. By then, the LCD4 was already well on its way back to the seller. And yes, it is a beautiful unit.

Thank you for the clarification. Then there is a small chance that these could be an easy fix. Hope a prospective buyer comes forward. I myself would have considered, if I hadn't already spent on audio gear this year, and still enjoying my LCD3s :).

Hi everyone, this is the buyer here. I would be happy to update once they get repaired! It'll probably be mid-January but I'll be sure to follow up once it happens. Although I've gotten very good at repairing some headphones (I've done probably 25 Focal Elexes by this point), I've never done a planar, and I don't even know if it's something that physically possible for me to do, like if the driver's torn, or if dismantling it means un-clamping the driver and losing tension/ruining it extra. Worst (and most likely) case, I'll have to send them in to Audeze, but will wait a bit to let the holidays pass, and to save some money in preparation.

Anyway, thank you SO much to Kevintj604 for this! Indeed, it's a beautiful unit, and I'm thrilled to have this in hand. Have a good week, everyone.

Cool of you to send an update. As a DIY guy in training definitely looking forward to hearing how it works out.
