I have a pair of HD8XX's in great condition. They are sticker modded and sound nearly identical to an 800S. The pads are still firm and in great shape, super clean. Includes a 6ft Bucktown XLR cable and XLR to 1/4" adapter. This cable sounded audibly better than the stock cable so I got rid of it. Stock cable is not included. Ships double-boxed.

It's when you remove two or all three of the inner tuning stickers to fix some of the issues with the 8XX. This is how they might measure without the tuning stickers.

DROP put in tuning stickers (three black damping stickers) on the mesh basket that radically affected the tuning of the headphone – DROP did this retune after their test panel had already given previews and hype. Many reviewers wildly panned how poor of a choice the release tuning was and DROP wound up liquidating their 8XX stock in a series of fire-sales for between $600-$700. I haven't heard the 8XX but as someone who's cycled through several of the real HD800/S I believe the negative descriptions and most people mention sticker modding to help the headphones sell.

Correction: There were no "fire sales". There was a one-time Z-reviews promo for $700 for a VERY limited number of units that most people missed out on. Most of these headphones sold for/ are selling for between $900-1100 new at retail.

The sticker mod is a necessity for these headphones, and should always be mentioned in full disclosure when selling them on the secondary market. Reviews from actual users can be found directly on the Drop site, of which the headphone currently has a 4.5 star rating from 169 reviews.

IMHO, the 8XX is a very strong value at 30% less money than an 800S. I haven't found another open-back at this price that I'd prefer. I'm upgrading my entire collection so these have to go. Cheers!
