Hello all,

I am looking to sell a visually mangled but 100% functional pair of the original HiFiMAN HE-5, their very first headphone. I am more than happy with it in my collection, but it's getting so little head time that I am looking to sell.

I am the second owner of this headphone, but the first owner was not a gentle one. Yep, both wooden cups cracked (in one spot each) and were hastily but sturdily repaired. The entire headband assembly is in fine shape, which is a plus.

This headphone is original down to the pre-mounting ring velour earpads, where the tabs of the earpads were cut into the pads themselves. The tabs cracked a bit and the owner thought it would have been a great idea to crazy glue them down (Audeze style?) with a hot glue gun. It was easy enough to undo (as much residue is left, there was about 5000% more), and the pads do gently stay on, but they're a mess. The mounting ring on one of the cups chipped a way in spots but still holds on pads just fine.

The headphone currently has a 3m 4-pin XLR cable screwed into the SMC connectors, and I will ship them that way. I had another shorter cable that for some reason didn't work on one side, but this one did and hasn't given me grief for years. I recommend leaving it alone.

I have them stored, but believe it or not, I have the original HiFiMAN cardboard box and the silver single-ended cable. I was able to install and remove the single ended cable without issue multiple times, so I think my XLR cable may have been the problem, but I did want to call that out.

My point is that I am not warrantying the condition at all - this thing's a mess, but it's perfectly functional and I've been using it for years. I've done my best to photograph this from every angle, but if there's something else you want to see, please let me know.

Hopefully I am not too out-to-lunch here, but it's hard to gauge such a rare item in the state that it is in. Surely less than 1/3rd 1/4th the price of an HE-6 makes sense.

One more note is that I only intend on shipping this to North America, and I am dead firm on that. Shipping and PayPal fees are included.

If you have any other questions, ask away!

It looks like I can't post any more pics. I have pics of the pads and drivers that I'll send to anyone seriously interested

Hd800 seems a bit steep for these, but an interesting find indeed. GLWS

Definitely willing to negotiate! I was thinking that maybe there's a mangled ragged pair of HD800 someone wants to get rid of.

I ended up getting an HD800S, so feel free to send interesting offers. I'd definitely be willing to trade up to some sort of ZMF headphone, which I have never tried.
