This listing is for a barely used, fully modded Drop + Sennheiser HD 8XX.

I purchased these open-box in order to do the sticker mod as a fun little project and to try and have a cheaper 800 S. I performed the sticker mod myself; all 3 stickers have been removed on both sides. I used a technique someone dropped in a Youtube comment: I put a thin layer of Goo-Gone on the outside of the cups opposite the sticker, let it set for 10 minutes, and then the sticker was able to come off in one simple pull and with very little residue. I then cleaned off the remaining residue and all traces of Goo-Gone—very carefully, with 70% isopropyl alcohol, Magic Eraser wipes, and a microfiber cloth.

The final result is that the cups are sticker-free and 100% clean; they look exactly like an 800 S on the inside.

I did listen to them before and after the mod, and it made a significant, positive difference. The “narrow corridor” effect on the midrange was completely removed. I don’t have an 800 S on hand but they sound basically like I remember them. Maybe there is a little bit more bass and slightly more polite treble.

Anyway, it was fun to do but then I remembered why I never kept the 800 S—I just don’t find the large earcup style very comfortable for long listening sessions. Oh well.

I also purchased and am including a custom 9 foot balanced XLR cable from Audiophile Ninja. This cable is beautiful and brand-new. So you are basically getting the same package as an HD 800 S for significantly cheaper.
