The Eddie Current EC/SS is extremely rare.

I think about 25 were built in two different batches starting around 2008.

The owner of the company, Craig Uthus, is said to have built the EC/SS to take advantage of many
of the new opamps that we're being manufactured at the time. So you can actually roll opamps in these neat little amplifiers.

The EC/SS was the first solid state headphone amplifier ever manufactured by Eddie Current, and is
the predecessor to the better known Black Widow.

I purchased mine a few years ago with an aftermarket dedicated linear power supply.


The EC/SS puts out about 3 watts of power into a 50 ohm headphone load, which makes it an ideal match for many planar magnetic headphones. It also synergizes quite well with high impedance dynamics like the HD600, HD650 and HD6XX, and even easily powers the vintage 600 ohm AKG K240 Sextett.

If you can actually find an EC/SS in nice shape they are well worth considering. I think they sold for about $450 new.
