This really is a very cool mod along with a good tutorial. Great job
You also can create a reduction from a brainwavz or Shure tip and insert it in the larger one, reaching almost the hd600 target. The dampening in these model are the major difference.

I'm not quite sure how you made the mod...can you be more specific?
Great job BTW, I shall give it a shot. I love that the mods are fully reversible.
Haha yeah, I was joking! His pics and description were excellent.Looks like he turned the tip inside out, then snipped it
Because it does sound different from experience!?!I did the feld mod but missed the bass and revert back to original. Am i a basshead??
Why do people say without the foam it sounds different when the HD58X evaluation.pdf states: "The foam is just there for better looks and has no function regarding the sound. " and confirms this with measurments?

Issue being people seeing Sennheisers use of the word "minimal" prior maybe? which its not! at least by my understanding of the word.
I also wonder about the pdf if it was a prototype or finished for that specific graph. I know what they show, but i also know how it actually sounds.....
Theres also a issue in this statement "Does not reinforce bass" "Or reflect back bass" So where did the bass go when it was removed?
Thought that as well, so i dove deeper into it with my testing. It most likely is placebo effect, more than people are willing to actually admit. I myself have tried removing the foam on my 58X and back-to-back within the few minutes' difference I was able to test with some music, I felt no real discernable difference.
