Just leaving this here for anyone want to try to squeeze a little bit (or a whole lot) extra soundstage out of the R8 II or any HiBy R Android device:

Hi @Joe Bloggs, can you explain why plugin order have different sound ? I try to change plugin order and it's sounds different. Convolution at bottom sounds better than Convolution at top.

Just installed plugin but not activate it will sounds different too.

And what's the best plugin order for sound quality ?

Thanks.

Well at the basic level, if Convolution is at the top, there is no sample rate adaptation before it and it will then function only for tracks of 48kHz sample rate, which is very few of them.

Btw, it only works with PCM, not MQA or DSD.

The best order is of course the order given in the guide :)

Versus the A&K SP3000, the R8 II is less engaging and less dynamic. A&K flagships are always good when it comes to dynamism, so considering the price difference and usual A&K sound, this isn’t big news. The sound stage of the R8 II isn’t as expansive either, but as I mentioned above, its sole resolution and transparency are not behind at all. So with this price tag, HiBy deserves some praise for making a very competitive DAP indeed.

That's my problem as well. I was at Highend Munich and heard sp3000 and 3000t with my ee odin. It was great. I tried shanling m9plus as well and sound was similar but UI and software is lagging and it is the same sh.t. (I have now shanling m7). I can't find there hiby r8 II and that is the last thing I am curious with my odin. I heard it with hiby rs8 but the combo it is not good.

What about Hiby R6P2? I also have couple dongles like Ibasso DC04 pro,RU7,Questyle M15, Shanling UA5. Actually these days I like my daps more than using the dongles, the sound is more mature to me.
I don't like dongles much. For my ears they don't have same dynamics like daps. I tried hiby r6pro 2 but not with them. Anyway hiby r6pro 2 isn't can't compare to shanling m7 in any aspect for my ears. Sorry for that but I found hiby little bit boring. But desing is great.

Is there any option in settings to put down screen resolution? Also has anyone tried the dap in combo with Fiio fh7s?
Text size as well as dpi can be adjusted.

Anyone using the R8ii without a screen protector?
No, But I changed mine for a new one, custom size. As the original is to small, this worked just correct before the curve on screen. Any bigger and it doesn't sit correct and get air under.

Still would have been nicer without, for smoother experience swiping on the edge.

Great thank you for the measurements. Do you have a link to the company used ?
