Welcome iFi to the Wiim Mini Streamer thread; I could see your iPower2 power supply with usb-c power plug being a nice add-on to the Wiim's streamer and the iFi iPower X on the upcoming Wiim Pro coming out this year in the 4Q; What do you think? There's something there for sure, but we're into supporting our ZEN Stream platform for as long as we can. As a fairly new product it's nowhere near its end of life

We enjoy the idea, but it's unlikely that these power supplies will come inside Wiim packages. These PSUs were menat to be optional accessories for those who seek them as potential upgrades. But then again, we never say never, so who knows
Thanks for the idea

Of course, I was thinking it more as an after market $50 tweak (iPower2 PS) that individuals can buy for the WiiM Pro streamer thats coming out soon for $150.We enjoy the idea, but it's unlikely that these power supplies will come inside Wiim packages. In the meantime, Wiim just put out another recent firmware update (8/26/2022)
- New Feature - Gapless playback for Amazon Music Ultra HD on WiiM Home App
- New Feature - Increase the number of presets from 6 to 12
- Improvement - TIDAL playback performance improvement on the WiiM App
- Fixed – Rare random crash issues for the TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect
- Fixed - Random crash issues for the TuneIn
- Other performance improvements

The number of features that was incorporated since its introduction was great. They keep adding more features. The Wiim pro will have chromecast which I been looking to cast on other program that can play higher sampling rate. As soon, wiim pro get release, I will be purchasing it. I’m pretty sure all features on what is on wiim now will be carried over. They use the same base code but pro will have more features as it has more powerful processor and more memory.Of course, I was thinking it more as an after market $50 tweak (iPower2 PS) for the WiiM Pro streamer thats coming out soon for $150.

OK, now I understand, thanks for clarifying. I haven't heard that WiiM so can't say for sure, but adding or at least trying out an iPower 2 or X with a DC-powered streamer makes sense.

I have ifi ac purifier and to my ear it made my music soft and reduce dynamic but it removed static and hiss sound. Additional softness, density, tone, reduced hissing and no static are positive effects, but we rarely read about decreased dynamics. AC iPurifier was designed to not impact that, but if you hear this change in your system, this means that it's there to you. Here I suggest trying out AC iPurifier in a different outlet if possible and seeing whether anything changes then. I hope this helps and thanks for your feedback!

Considering the WiiM’s Optical output performs better than any dac/amp on the market currently, that’s not possible - the system will always be the limiting factor on digital out. With regards to the harshness you are hearing, it’s more likely that your system is highlighting inadequacies in the Wiim, rather than the Wiim exposing any flaws in your system.
I’m running mine through a basic Schiit Modi/Magni set up, and it doesn’t sound harsh, to my ears. I’ve given it a blast through my quite revealing speaker system, and it’s a bit rough sounding, in comparison to my usual Node 2i.
I’m not having a go at the Wiim, as it’s great value, but it doesn’t sound as good as other, admittedly more expensive, streamers I’ve tried.

Edit: This was resolved.
I got a WiiM yesterday, and this might be the most annoying piece of kit to deal with I’ve owned so far. It’s a constant battle to keep it functioning.
first it wouldn’t connect and crashed during updating itself. It takes 5-7 restarts to get it to go into setup mode, the rest of the time it goes to solid green or white light and the buttons stop working.
‘when finally connected it drops that connection sooner or later, forcing you to reconnect after numerous restarts. Yesterday after hours of this I finally got it to work for an extended period, went to bed and wake up to it with a solid green light, once again not working.
I cannot fathom how this got good reviews. Great when it works - it just doesn’t.

I’m sorry, but it is possible. My revealing system easily lets one hear the limitations of the Wiim, and that’s using optical out.

You’re a stream fan and wiim critic. If your ear tells you it’s good then it’s good. I have both and I don’t like smooth high that I don’t enjoy cymbals the way stream produce at it mask the detail. Wiim is produce cymbals the way it meant to be heard.“Considering the WiiM’s Optical output performs better than any dac/amp on the market currently, that’s not possible - the system will always be the limiting factor on digital out.”

How is it possible? Nothing about the system is particularly unusually revealing, so it should be audible to most if it’s the case?“Considering the WiiM’s Optical output performs better than any dac/amp on the market currently, that’s not possible - the system will always be the limiting factor on digital out.”

Of course it’s possible. I have two different streamers, both with optical out, and I have tried them through a number of different dacs into the same amplifier and speaker combo, and in each case I prefer the sound of the other streamer. My system is perfectly capable of revealing the differences in source components, thank you.
I’m not a Wiim critic. I own one, and it’s a great value piece of kit. It isn’t, in my experience, the “best” sounding streamer, but it’s very good for the price.
I prefer the sound of the ZS, over the Wiim, and I prefer the Wiim over Yamaha musicast I have.

Im just saying it shouldn’t be possible for there to be an audible difference if set up right, to my knowledge, and when tested correctly I haven’t seen any case of streamers being audibly different to anyone. So I’m simply confused, looking for answers. I guess ‘proof’ would be the right word, but that tends to be taken as rather combative for whatever reason.
At any rate, good you enjoy it and it works. Ill try some more experimenting once I get mine to work properly and consistently.
