What's the best USB audio cable for the money?
May 17, 2024 at 6:38 PM Post #1,291 of 1,335
Just received the Supra Excalibur today and without burn-in it is superior sounding to the standard high-speed version.
Higher clarity, a tad faster, and more air around the soundstage and background instruments.

The standard Supra cable sounds warmer/analog though.
Thanks for the thoughts here, gives me a better picture as I have never heard it.

Appreciate it very much!

Cheers!!

I’ve measured different USB cables and they make zero diff.

A galvanic isolator on the other hand does make a diff.
And that is also important, but here we are talking about our impressions of how we perceive the sound with different cables.

Until we know how to measure our feelings of them, than we can beg to disagree!!

Cheers!!

Ha, well you do have bias already as you sell those cables. So there’s that.
No offense. Just pointing out the obvious.

Cheers

And amazingly my "bias" has recommended another manufacturer over and over in this thread...

I have galvanic isolation in my Schiit Unison USB but I can still hear a cleaner, more detailed sound out of the Excalibur compared to the basic cable. I don't care why it sounds better but for $100 I consider it a Win.

I am going to grab an Excalibur as soon as I can, It is highly recommended and I think "I" may tend towards that warmer analog sound so it will be an interesting test between it and my "never mentioned" mercury cable....:beerchug:

That’s cool man.

I really meant no offense and I wasn’t trying to be snarky. It’s so hard to convey things sometimes on text.
Just meant it in a scientific manner.

I just never heard the difference in five different USB cables I own.
3 are Audioquest. And I got those because they are pretty.

But the Ifi iGalvanic I have works, and I measured that it indeed works as intended. So does the Intona galvanic isolator.

No offense taken at all my friend, and my apologies to you if I came off that way, it was not intentional...

For many many years I paid attention to measurements in DACs specifically and never seemed to be getting more personal satisfaction from what I was buying, albeit this next DAC had way better SINAD than the last one...

It was then I decided i was going to buy what I enjoyed, after all that is what we are all here for, so even though I no longer own my Denafrips Ares II (measurement loser) I discovered what I liked, and haven't looked back.

We are all here for the same reason, our love of music!

Cheers!!

No worries at all. Nah It didn’t come off in that manner at all.

The odd thing is that I just made a few headphone cables cause I’m bored. And wouldn’t you know it. The wire didn’t make a difference but the connectors did.

I wish someone could explain it. They shouldn’t sound different but they do.
Go figure.

Just mentioned that cause I’m not a measurements snob. But I’ll say the truth on what I’ve heard makes a diff and what I can’t tell a diff from.
6 Foot headphone cables. Same wire, different connectors. I actually prefer the cheaper Neutrik over the Furutech. Boing! Lol

The Gustard U18 DDC in my system has galvanic isolation which makes a positive difference.

With the He1000se, I can definitely hear a different sound signature from the regular Supra hi speed, Supra Excalibur and the Oyaide class A usb cable.

I can also hear the difference in headphone cables and to a lesser extent power cables.

Maybe you are not measuring the right thing.....

I measured THD , mains noise and jitter.

What else is there to measure ?

Legit question.

My Marantz DAC needs a galvanic isolator such as the Ifi I galvanic. It makes a measurable diff.
with my benchmark DAC3 a galvanic isolator does nothing.

Got to measure with your ears too.

In this age with Amazon's and eBay's generous return policy, you can try alot of audio gear and not commit to the item if you deem it to be snake oil / scam.

I’ve listened. Trust me. Like I said I hear the diff in headphone connectors. So I’m not a measurements snob.
But our ears aren’t measuring devices.

Why you even try to convert him? There are always these religious discussions when an atheist comes into the group. He just doesn't "believe" in it and apparently has more knowledge than others. I wouldn't waste energy on something like that
