I've been a member of head-fi for a very short time, and even by now I've started to see things differently... for a list of things

From what I've experienced so far, there are two [intertwined] things in particular to head-fi:

#1) This is by FAR the most seductive forum I've ever come accross...
Not 2 months ago, I was perfectly happy with my $5 phillips earbud 128 kbps mp3. Now I'm waiting on ALO-recabled 18g Edition 9's...

#2) I have also learned that there's no real "neutral" sound to be found in headphones.
I figured that the easiest way to have a neutral listening session is to listen to nothing... I mean there's no sound quality or signature to speak of.
Just play the music in your head and jam away... If your head is not neutral then that's something else.

Head fi made me suspicious of anybody talking about any improvement.

For example, at the kitchen some chefs do tiny things that are supposed to make food taste better. The first thing that came to my mind was "did you do a double blind test"?

That online communities can be really nice, but also addictive.
..and that music is just as important as the gear reproducing it.
