What are your most comfortable cans for all-day use?

I absolutely loved the XB700's for extended use. So damn soft, and just enough clamp force to feel secure, but not so much that it's uncomfortable.

I haven't had much chance to use my K601's, but they seem like they will be very, very comfortable for long sessions.

As long as I get a few breaks for meetings, phone calls etc I can go with my iem's all day, shure 530. Now that I have the right plugs and since I wear them so much I hardly notice them. I have to agree though, not great for hearing the phone etc...

If I were to bring my full size stuff in... I'd say d7000 followed closely by hd600. The denon's are very comfortable for me. The Grados would be a distant 3rd.

i think it's hilarious that you mentioned the HD-590s, cause as soon as I saw the thread title, I knew that'd be my answer.

The 590s are the -only- headphones I've ever worn that actually made me forget I had them on. More than once I'd get up and walk away from the computer, only to get  yanked back by the cord. They're like pillows on your head, but they let your ears "breathe". I'd go through 12 hour LAN parties without the slightest bit of ear fatigue.

My HD-650s are pretty close. If the HD-590s rate a 10/10 in comfort (and I'd say they do), then my pair of 650s are probably a 9.5/10. Or they were before the foam padding wore down. I'll have to replace that some day.

I say "my" pair of Hd-650s, because I've seen a lot of people say theirs clamp pretty hard, which my 650s never did. My wife's hd-580s on the other hand, clamp pretty noticably. I'd call them probably an 8/10 for the clamping force mostly (as otherwise they're nearly identical to the 650s in comfort).

My Beyerdynamic DT880s, are pretty decent. The foam in both the headband and the earcups is more firm than Sennheiser foam, I'd give it probably 8.5/10.

My Alessandro MS1s are not comfortable at all. I have to take a break after about 45 min to an hour because my ears get annoyed. maybe a 3/10 or 4/10.

My Koss KSC-50s rank all time low. 0.5/10. I HAD to take them off after 30-45 min because my ears were in so much pain. Such a shame as they actually sounded pretty damn good for their bargain basement price.

I can wear my Grados all day...especially with the jumbos on. My K701's I am good for about an hour then I start getting a headache. The most comfy though were my 770 Pro 80's. Sometimes I would wear them with no music just because they felt so good.

AKG k500, 7 hours of use,  it felt like air.

I also add the AKG K702 to the list. Very comfy for using long periods of time.

I think the K702s are very comfortable as well, but some people go insane over the bumps on the headband. The most comfortable headphones I ever wore were the Denon D5000s - very soft padding, and quite light for their size. I wasn't so crazy about the sound, though; I found the mids a bit shouty.

The HD650s are also, like the K702s, rather polarizing in terms of comfort (not to mention sound). When I tried them, I found the clamping force too strong to be comfortable, especially for a glasses-wearer like myself.

x2 on the Grado's I have some 125s and I wear them for up to 4 hours with no breaks.  Although a good set of custom iem's can do circles around many but the price of entry is steep.

HD 800 or D7000

Either are great but the HD 800 never get remotely hot and probably the most comfy.

Grado 325i are the absolute worst I have had for comfort. Would prefer 10$ radioshack sonys

For me it is a close call between the DT770 pro 80's and the HD800's. When I switch between the two I am always surprised by how comfortable the other one feels.

They are much more comfortable than my 325i and RS1, though I can wear the Grados for hours at a stretch.

My only cans are the AKG k240s so I can't really compare anything, but I've definitely forgotten I've had them on before. Even when I know they're on, I can barely tell because they're so light and un-clampy.

Interesting (to me) just how a large a percentage of respondents to this thread reference one Sennheiser model or another. Seems like they got ergonomics right...
