MadDog...

To put you off of the FX1000 - Even if it does turn out that the FX500 doesn't burn in to be a copy of the FX1000... there is only a lets say.. 10% difference in sound quality (that is completely non scientific, but - the next part will snap it into focus) - However, the FX1000 is equivilant to $400, whereas the FX500 is equivilant to $150ish inclusive shipping...

...Even if there is a difference at the end of it, is that final 10% ot so worth a 266% premium??

Seems to be, to many members on Head-Fi. Go figure. That gap is one reason why I am now content with trying not to pay more than $100 for a pair of phones any longer (the W3s were a gift, and the X10s were half price).

DTKZ...

Other than the cable splitter having the different model designation on, the Victor transfer instead of JVC on the units themselves, and a slightly different colour finish (but, that could easily be because of the cut of wood or whatever) then - yes... they are exactly the same size / build...

That being said, It feels that the FX500 cable is slightly more rubbery than that of the FX1000, and it seems to be slightly thinner / fmore flexible than the FX1000 cable also...

I do have a gut feeling that this will end up being a burn in issue (which will be interesting - seeing the grief that was being caused / brought up in the burn in thread last week lol)

Grr...

One thing that does suck - You have the Denon C710 - which are... AFAIK $150 or there abouts... they are £150+ in the UK...

Nevermind, will have to look out on the FS forums for a pair (the reviews of their treble have piqued my interest...)

They are only $82 here (beachaudio.com), plus $8 S&H, the C710s that is. Way under the MSRP, in fact. Strange, for sure.

I'm not actually enjoying the FX500 that much...

Their boosted bass (as the major gripe) is enough to give me a bass headache...

...I really hope this is a burn-in issue... and, fingers crossed, if it is, burn-in will clean up / lift the treble...

I guess - to eliminate various factors, that I need to get another pair of FX500...

...Crap, this 'hobby' is really bad for draining money... why on earth would any mortal person be looking at buying in effect a third pair to rule out various factors... lol
