Define "pairs well"....

 
Color is color, it's all subjective really.  I prefer the matte black as well.

Hi everyone, I just got the m-100 mostly based on the hype on this site. But I am having a tremendous problem. The m-100 is incompatible with my Asus Xonar D1 sound card. I am 100% positive that the jacks are plugged in properly. The m100 works on my FiiO E7 and my AD900 works on the D1, but when I plug the m100s into the D1, the sound is distorted and horrible. This isn't an aesthetic judgment -- there are only distorted sounds coming from the m100 when it's plugged into the D1. It sounds almost like a blown speaker, but that's not the issue because, like I said, the m100 works through the E7.  I have also tried three different wires (two that came with the headphone and one additional one), and it's not the sound card settings because the AD900 works fine with the same settings. What gives?

Are you connecting your headphones directly to the jack on the card, or are you using the front panel jacks?  Also, some sound cards automatically change setting when they detect a new device being plugged in.  Make sure that none of the settings are being change when you switch to the M-100's.  Weird issue though...

Pairs well: as in goes together, or compliments one another

That color-trio is used in Casinos because it is found to be alluring to the greater mass..
It's also a common scheme of Christmas =)

The red is only on that little portion and on the top with the lettering. Wouldn't call it exactly jarring haha...
I'm more on about the reflective black making the product look cheaper than it is.

Directly to the jack on the card. I will try front panel if you think that will help. The settings don't change when I plug them in, and I've tried altering them to no avail. To be honest, the sound is so distorted that I don't think changing settings could have a significant impact. It really sounds like a blown speaker.

Check to see on the sound card that there is a headphone setting.
 
I'm having a feeling, since the M-100's are so easy to drive, that the card is outputting too much to the headphones.
I wouldn't keep them plugged in either, as distortion is never a good thing.

What have I done... I took out the tissue I had in, and then tried to re-insert some new pieces. The sound hasn't been the same since. I hope its just me.
Not going to listen to them anymore now tonight. My ears might just be feeling a bit stuffy

The front shouldn't make anything better.  Primarily I was trying to make sure you weren't using the front jacks.  Did you check the built in EQ in the sound card software to make sure that isn't changing as well?  Crazy high EQ levels in the lower frequencies can make the sounds you are describing.  Not really sure what else it could be.  Can you get rid of the soundcard software all-together and just use the default windows drivers?  I assume you have tried just plugging into an iPod or a phone?  It has to be something software related if they work with other devices.  Does your computer have a built in audio card you can try them with?

I appreciate your help. The EQ in the sound card isn't changing, plus I have been pressing default settings whenever I plug them in. In any case, it doesn't look like anything changes on the soundcard EQ or settings when I plug the AD900 or the M100 in. Unfortunately, I don't think the soundcard works without its own drivers. I have also tried switching between ASIO, KS, and DS on foobar2000, and none of those settings make a difference. There are no extra components on foobar that could be causing it. You will have to install the creative drivers for it to work...go to the Creative website and locate your soundcard drivers, installing is very easy and once rebooted your audio should work!

Sorry, just to be clear, you want me to install Creative drivers for an Asus soundcard? I have the most recent Asus drivers, and the card works perfectly with the AD900.

Sorry, just to be clear, you want me to install Creative drivers for an Asus soundcard? I have the most recent Asus drivers, and the card works perfectly with the AD900. 

Maybe this is a similar case for the O2. With the O2, if I plug-in the M-100's 4-ring (TTRS) cable all the way in, I get distorted, mono sound. If I pull out the jack slightly, I get perfect audio out of the O2.
I'm not the only one who had this issue.

So it seems that head-fi ultra hyped these headphones. Question is, was it worth the hype? Not saying if they are good or bad, just whether it reached the levels of hype it had.
Oh, and no one has uploaded pics of the matte black with orange shields, as they promised, i'm still waiting
