can you tell me where you're replacing this resistor? i don't remember
using this resistor in the wa6...

It's that ARCOL resistor connected to those 330uF caps.

i see your point with the dual 1000 ohm resistors to separate
the power supply from that point...my fingers are getting itchy
to do your mod...

Jack told me that it's ok to use that 12 watt Mills resistor instead of that 15 watt Arcol. Some of the resistors are rather over-sized.

You don't need a 50 watt and even a 12 watt is more than needed but it is better to go over sized but 50 isn't needed as you aren't dealing with that much current and drop in voltage.

Finally finished fully upgrading my WA6. It was more work then I expected.
After I finish my beer and do the final measuring & cleaning, I'll take couple of pics.

Nice Job! that looks professionally done! good luck with the long
burn in...approx. 700+ hrs till the SQ stops changing...

in case you were wondering about jamato's power supply mod,
you'd use two sets of the WK black gate caps with two 1000 ohm
resistors, instead of the 510 ohm between the pair). they would then
provide separate and individual power to the two output tube sockets
(the green wire with the black tape mark coming from the 510 ohm
resistor is providing the powerto both output tubes) jamato
thinks it will provide better power and improve the SQ, which i'm
inclined to agree with.

Thank you. Btw, did you burn in your WA6 continuously?

Mar 17, 2008 at 11:22 PM Post #159 of 187
yeah, i burned it in continously up til around 400+ hrs...i made sure the unit
had good ventilation and my wife was home to make sure nothing burned down...
it's a great opportunity to experience a "burn-in" of caps, if you've
never experienced or believed in it...i burned in a new akg701 along with it...

Still wondering do I dare to leave my amp burning in at home while I'm at work.

Hi: I am looking into an "allout" WA6 and was wondering if there is some way that the upgraded caps can be "burned-in" before installation..... 700 hours seems like a long time, that's 29 days straight! I don't think I can wait that long for the sound to become listenable! At what hour does the caps at least sound not too bad...200,400?Thanks, Huck

it actually sounds very good the first minute...what i experienced was a
fluctuation of the SQ ranging from good to great...it was never "bad"...

Yes, it is better to not leave a tube amp on while you are gone. A tube could go out and it could take out the transformer. Other problems can arise but it is best to have tube equipment on while you are around.

x2

The effects of burn-in on the capacitors shouldn't be taken to mean that the new amp sounds bad or is unlistenable. My amp has sounded fine to me since the day I got it.
