You can sometimes find them pre-owned on the classified and at good prices.  I picked one up myself and saved a few hundred bucks over new.

according to the reviews the modification makes them sound like ultrasone edition 9s , is the technology outdated ?

I used to have those headphones; they were very good sounding 'cans. But the newer 'cans sound better, subjectively. I have a Beyerdynamic/AK T1p that sound better; better balance overall; the ALOs were a little bass-shy. They're around $500 used.

When I had my ALO-780s, they were bass-shy. Maybe because the Jena-cables hadn't been broken in. What bothered me was the sibilance of these 'cans although greatly reduced with the mod but still there for me. I enjoyed watching movies with these 'cans and some light music.

Ok. That definitely sounds (ha!) like they weren't burned in at all. Sibiliance is typical for a fresh set. This thread here, just like the thread about the original Ultrasone HFI 780s, should have plenty of info (it's long though).

Sorry to be the gravedigger again... can you guys please recommend a used headamp to pair with these ALO modded HFI-780s ?
will be only connected via USB to a desktop PC and listening to 130bpm to 145bpm dance music.
Budget $250 USD used,
and the the ALO modded headphones I managed to buy off a guy in Germany are with "18G JenaLabs Cryo Wire"
