If so, isn't headphone listening a solitary, cut-off-from-others activity?

As much as I'd love to see a pair of HD800s in the flesh, I don't think it'd be that fun to sit and watch someone listen to them (well, maybe Evangeline Lilly in her undies, but even that...)

And I don't know if I'd really like to actually try some HD800s myself, even momentarily, as such an act might lead to perpetual dissatisfaction with my own gear...

So, what's the deal with head-fi-meet appeal?
