Another myth-- you can just be a community member, hang out and not be touched by upgraditis/sense that what you have is inferior to what you can get.

The ksc75 doesn't count! I guess it actually is the best you can get!

I FOUND THE VEIL!!!
After listening to music extensively with Beyerdynamic Dt880's and AKG K701's last night for about 3 hours, I put on my HD650's and they sounded awful:
veiled
dark
distant
rolled off
boomy in the bass
NO JOKE!

This false sense of satisfaction and lack of upgraditis might have been due to inferior interconnects.

Now listen to the HD650 for 3 hours and switch back to the DT880 or K701.

They'll sound awful:
bright
harsh
sibilant
fatiguing
lack of bass

Myth my arse.

They sound like they are spitting mushrooms into your ear canals.

True, the sound is clear, but there is no *pop* to it.

They have accuracy, but no *sparkle*.

And it's not necessarily a "veil," although that is an apt and fair description; rather it is more that the sonic signature is so reserved, warm, dark, and caramel-like, that one perceives that a milky haze is draped over the entire sound spectrum of these things.

Try some cans that don't sound like they are rockin' out of the bottom of a manhole with the cover off and get back with us about this so-called myth.

Yup. To me, the HD650 and DT880 make each other sound like crap when switching between them, since they each bend reality in different directions.

Except, I only needed to listen to the K1000 ONCE, and not for an extended period of time, mind you, and every single time I tried the HD650 after that, it was the same awful, veiled, dark and muddy sound. No matter how long I listened.

I call BS. When ripping a CD it is not real time, errors will be re-read. It is reading and processing the pure data. It will either be correct or not.

Either the light will reflect back, or it wont, there is on or off, 1 or 0. No middle ground, no grey area.

Look up some basics of the technology.
