To answer your question, I say "Yes". Because DAP are all made to be solid and stay put, in the mean while our technologies is progressing faster and faster. DAP became so lagging behind. The non-upgradable components such as DAC+AMP results in people upgrading their DAP every year, even shorter time than that.

James, you know what I had been thinking about ? Something that can be lightning fast in reading and processing + upgradable modules that has DAC+AMP.

1/ a high processing power that can be so snappy with android OS or window 10 or Linux...doesn't matter. Just need it to be extremely fast, and we are talking about Exynos 8820 or Mediatek or so, 4GB of Ram. Exactly like that of the "flagship smartphone". Bluetooth, wifi, then separated it, shielded it inside a good shielding metal such as aluminum outside on the surface and plated copper inside for stronger shielding purposes. It can output "Optical, USB-C, lightning" Port. It needs huge storage built-in and expansion slots. It needs no DAC on in itself. It could come with a small Standard DAC+Amp Module.

2/ Modules, now, since the transport will only process the Data at the "fastest speed" so the module mechanism will be made available to another section of Dedicated DAC + AMP within the Modules. Since the DAC+Amps modules are shielded and separated from the Transport (shielded), the interferences should be non-existence, and beside when Data transferring speed "affect less by conductivity", the copper terminals and pinnacles receptacles will not affect the "Analog signals quality"

3/ The 2 above combined, we have a transport that is free of bound from integrated DAC (snapdragon ?), we have the friendly OS that 3rd party developers can possibly release software for playbacks. We get the wireless capability as well.

I am thinking this is very very much plausible, since China smartphone like Vivo are all packing huge specs and at lower price. Such transports like this will possibly be $350-500 range. Then the DAC+Amp module can cost another $400-1500...whatever, however the marketing, price/performance is justified.

Then, we will have a Future Proof Transport, with the "amp+DAC" that is timeless in the future even if the next generation transport could be made more powerful, these modules will still work on it. But the direction that people is heading now with newer portable digital processing prowess like ESS, there will be newer DAC and OpAmp every year or so. It will be good to have a Powerhouse of processing power, then people need to only upgrade DAC+AMP

Everything is pretty much like X7 and G5.....but only different is that we have 2 parts (Processing, reading powerhouse, and then removable/replaceable DAC+Amp). People can also transport it to many other things :D. Totally audiophile grades with solid shielding and body

james, you get me excited with the idea of a pure transport and then you make me sad because it will have a dac and amp :frowning2:

Seems a wasted opportunity for a unique product if they go that way. My most expensive purchase was a CD/DVD transport without DAC:)

not DAC means it can't works with portalbe amp like our E12/E12A and other great amps.

not amp means someone may buy it and return to the Amazon and complain what the **** it is

.  not everyone know what transport means so a very high integrated amp/dac is necessary. in fact, it will not cost too much. with ES9018K2M and ES9601.

I do think you should sack the idea of including a dac and amp section and focus on the main goal, a dedicated transport or 2!

By 2 i mean 1 the size of a 4-5inch smartphone but very slim, example for stacking with things like oppo ha2.

Then 1 smaller but fatter like the size of the cowon plenue D, example to stack with mojo and other smaller dac amp combos.

the DAC/AMP will not be a big problem for it. you can see some hifi smartphone also carry decent DAC/AMP in the market.

BTW, talking about replaceable battery, it means you can replace the battery to get longer battery life or you just would to replace the battery by yourself when the battery is defect ?

yes but i thought from the op that you wanted to do a transport?

if not then it will just become another low sound quality dap. you already have the M3 that is cheap so people can buy that.

pure transport is the way to go.

- excellent battery 30+ hours
- plenty of outputs (usb/optical/3.5etc)
- ensure bit perfect output (no dsp/upsampling)
- good screen quality and resolution
- sexy design
- mSata
- good processor for smooth ui
- sheilding
- NO BLUE LEDs

think about it, it could be the perfect pairing with your upcoming Q5.

Personally I'd rather have an option to replace the battery when it's defective or end of life. Most user replicable batteries have low mAh hours and I'd be happier with the maximum lasting play time. If implemented as a transport well I could see users owning the device for a long time.

mSAST support would be incredible.

Them it means we have to design a case with lots of screws so you can open it and install a SSD disk inside it.

i think it's worth it. maybe you can divert the design from X7 module? i don't know.
but if you can archive mSAST support and decent battery life (at least 10hrs), you have a winner on your hands imo.
