Hi, guys,

When we first be a member of head-fi'er, most of us were use iPod Classic as music source and bundled with an DAC/AMP or AMP only, but as you can see that now there are so many DAPs designed for audiophiles .

but it it quite interesting that we found lots of our fans and other audiophiles still like to bundle DAPs with other amp, so I am wondering whether it will be popular if we make a new DAP which designed as transport.  in my mind it should be

1, supports huge storage, maybe up to 1T by 2 SD slot so you get 512g x 2.

2, full touch screen so you can manage so many music quite easy like our X7.

3, supports optical/coaxial/USB digital audio out , and line out .

4, build in a headphone amp but it is not the important part so we can save the battery, cost and make it as small as possible.

5, with bluetooth (APT-X ) and supports bluetooth remote controller.

6, better system so it can deal with maybe up to 30,000 or 40,000 sound tracks.

7, maybe USB 3.0 supports

8, two USB socket one for USB digital out and one for power.

oh, maybe we are too crazy but who know

----------------------------------------------------------------------first picture of the transport, just to show the idea-------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------about what kind of storage ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

let's compare the mSATA disk with dual SD card.

mSATA

Pros: bigger storage, cheaper at same volume

Cons: bigger size , not easy to install ( open the case first ), need more power so it make the size even bigger. not everyone have mSATA disk so they have to  buy one.

Dual SD

Pros: size, battery life, most people have couple SD cards or mSD cards.

Cons: max volume is 1T right now ( 2 X 512g ), cost,

So I think we should go back to Dual SD card slot . it is more reasonable.

-------------------------------------------------------------OK, we have answer very fast so we have decided 2 SD slot on 3-7-2016---------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------now we have 2st question , battery life ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

thanks for your feedback about the battery life. I think 15 - 20 hours will be the best balance between battery life and size.

--------------------------------------------------------------the result of the screen and operation------------------------------------------------

Dear James,

among the features you listed, these are what I consider improvements over the X7,

Apt-X Bluetooth
The increased storage via full size SD cards

Now here are features I would also consider attractive to me:

increased shielding given the issues with X7

And what about a feature such as Meridian MQA decoding?

I think providing FiiO's potential transport can be priced quite reasonably this would give many members more reason to buy. What we have is a market full of DAPs and members purchasing these DAPs just to use as a transport whilst much of the internal amp and DAP itself is never used. If FiiO can provide all the right inputs coax, optical, USB, big storage then keep the price quite low there's quite a large market in it imo. We have people buying AK units, DX80, just to use their optical out etc, people buying smartphones just to use as transports.

The key is to keep the price below such units, if its possible.

a pure transport device with large storage is something i been dreaming about for a very long time.
imo all you need is every kinds of digital audio outs, analog line out, 2 SD card slots, touchscreen, hardware bottons like volume control, and at least 10hrs of battery life. make it as thin as possible and you got perfect transport device in your hands.

I get the funniest feeling of Déjà vu!

I think its a great idea. Scratch bluetooth though, give it the two SD card slots, support MQA, and make it strictly a music player (no apps, no streaming, just a DAP)....then it would probably fall into that nice price-range, and serve the intended purpose well.

I would like it android based as I would like to use other music apps and the ability to have a pure digital output from those apps !

for battery life android may not good for this

Wow. If the price is right this is it! It just needs to be decent sounding as a standalone DAP. If all digital/line outputs are will designed and implemented, we can use it as a transport whilst not on-the-go, where SQ is more easily appreciated!

User removable Batt!

sorry not it make the design more complex and hard to control the size, even our competitor give up the removable battery in their new model . that say the true.
