Since you're in the US you might want to try the link CashNotCredit found instead:

$50 shipped, probably about as good a deal as the taobao deal after shipping is accounted for?

With my luck with shipping from Japan (which is obviously not China), things can get here surprisingly quickly. The e-Bay description says 7-10 days, and that's about right. Hopefully, we can get them by about the 8th.

If these things are even remotely close to the 580s, they should head straight to the Discovery Thread. They sound like the kind of product that Dsnuts can rile the Head-Fi army around. Somic won't know what hit them.

Damn Joe! I'm tempted. I really love my jvc s500's (with ath pleather pads) and my Sony xba3's, and there is no logical reason for why I am even considering getting these Somics. Or is there? Please help me....

Same boat here. I just got Sony MH1Cs this week, and I love them, almost as much as my Coby padded HA-S500s...so why I bought these Somics (and am looking for DBIs) is beyond me. To be fair, I have no open-backed cans...that's my rationalization and I'm sticking to it.

I'm not going to help you stave off this purchase if that's what you mean

For one thing it looks like you haven't got any full-size circumaural phones or open back phones, both properties of this Somic

For another, these sound at least as refined as any of the other phones I mentioned in the other thread.  Like the MH1C these have smooth extended highs (but more sparkly than the MH1C) and a consumer friendly gentle bass boost--a high class version of the V-shaped sound Dsnuts loves so much.

Oh man. I just realized that too.
You're in for an incredible soundstage treat wayne.

My curve is an approximate frequency response curve, my EQ for them is a midbass cut followed by a subbass boost and selective cut of the highs (ie an inverse of the FR curve).

Sounds like what I would do to the superlux 668b.
I guess that means in terms of sound they are on par.

What's your reference basis though?  My reference level of appropriate midbass is Etymotics kind of thin bass, so I apply a midbass cut to just about every other phone I hear

Yeah, they sound good. I'd be pretty happy to get into some decent full-sized cans for that kind of price.

You mentioned that you thought they could be driven without being amped. I would be planning on using them with my SGS2 and Clip Zip, so that would be good (fwiw, I am also considering the Fiio E11 - although possibly it can't be listened to while it is being charged, which would be a bummer).

They are sounding fine out of the weediest unamped output I have, the desktop sound card.

If you want something in Fiio's line that works while charging, get a USB DAC.  The cheapest would be a Fiio E7.  Should drive these just fine.

@Joe
I hate your guts man, impulse on something so unknown is something i gave into (just now) and i also just purchased a pair off of ebay. I can't wait to apply some of my own feedback to these puppies.

I am no professional, but i do want to give it a shot on my own opinions on these.

Random but somewhat ontop as it is the same company
